Are the pass rushers in this draft really BAP? They all seem meh...

Quote:id agree with the black font portion. the reps dont mean much to me at all though. His reps mean nothing. He doesn't play nearly that strong at all.

Everyone talks about the bench reps. The power comes from the legs. Would love to see how many squats each player could do
Quote:and this is another thing, the defense of beasley is his numbers and his explosive step, but when you talk about shane ray in the same context, then all the sudden no one wants him. oh was he? or are you making stuff up again? I know, you see SEC and think instantly "SEC > ACC" without any further analysis. who exactly did Ray beat for his sacks? Let's take a look: http://espn.go.com/college-football/play.../shane-ray a bunch of sacks against smaller schools and inferior competition (you count them still, but that doesn't help your argument about him doing it against better players) 2 sacks against south carolina. One 1, he beats the right guard (will sport: nothing special) and OT corey robinson (listed as a 7th round prospect/rookie free agent). 2 sacks against Florida. Beat Humphries on 3rd down on a speed rush (obvious passing down, but it still counts: good sack) and another sack where Humprhies had him blocked but the QB scrambles in that direction for basically a gain of 0 - it counted as a sack. 2 sacks against Kentucky against their LT: listed as a 5th-6th round prospect by NFL.com 1 sack against Texas A&M: Couldn't find the sack or who he beat. So your argument that he played against better players overall may be true - but it's not like he beat those better players on a regular basis. Beasley has 33 sacks in his career and I'm sure I wouldn't have a hard time finding him beating much better prospects for sacks than Shane Ray. So the entire 2014 season (without counting texas AM because I couldn't find who he beat) and the only good prospect he beat was DJ Humphries. thanks for playing. So what exactly did Ray do against better competition? Don't worry, I'll wait.

Quote:oh was he? or are you making stuff up again? I know, you see SEC and think instantly "SEC > ACC" without any further analysis. so youre not going to put who beasley got his sacks against last season? and we are supposed to know where they were assigned? or what players they were lined up against? get out of here with that.

What a joke. again, ray did it going through, around, in between defenders and double teams. i watched it happen. beasley used primarily a speed rush and was schemed to go around players. anytime he needed to actually match up against someone he got stonewalled. we can sit here and say the same things over and over again, at this point all we are gonna be able to do is wait and see who turns out better...more specifically how beasley actually plays in the nfl.

Any other time that's a win for the LT. i think his speed is impressive. i never said it wasnt. ive just seen a lot of pure speed rushers come up short in the NFL. time will tell. just for the record, if we have to pick at 3 in order id prefer leonard williams dante fowler vic beasley kevin white amari cooper its not like i hate him. i just dont think he is the best option at 3. its my opinion though. i dont know why everyone is trying so hard to change how i view something. ive watched him play, i know what he can do. the only person thats going to change my mind is vic beasley.

Quote:None of these guys including Fowler seem like elite pass rushers and in any other draft they would be drafted much later in the first round. Additionally, it seems like the only reason a lot of the guys on radio or on the boards want a pass rusher is because it's a need. I agree it's a need, but I just don't like this crop at all...too tweenerish. Some folks have been saying this all along. LW, or Cooper for me. Trade down if you "must" take a tweener, err "edge," err pass rusher from this class.

Holy hell did some silly people come and hijack this thread with the most false trash I've read in a while...
Quote:Sorry your argument holds no water that Ray did anything against better competition. Quote:Sorry your argument holds no water that Ray did anything against better competition. Quote:Why talk in the past tense? I'm projecting his future as a LEO, and that's a position better suited for Ray's explosiveness off the line. No one's questioning Ray's explosiveness. Him, along with Beasley are the two most explosive guys in this draft (probably Dupree too). 12 sacks? Now who's talking about past tense? Ray often gets stone walled when his first step doesn't work against the OT. When the OT gets his hand on him...he's done. Like...done. His bend and agility on tape is awful, and his pro-day further confirms those question marks. Timing the snap and a quick get off works in the college game. Not so much in the Pros, which is why there's plenty of concern how Ray's game will translate in the Pros. His 3 cone dril is 7.71. That's lower than Leonard Williams who is 6'5 302 lbs, lower than Arstead at 292. And his tape shows that when the OT does get a hand on him, he's done. Finito. He can't shed it. Quote:strength-wise, KY keeps talking about the bench press.... but beasley gets stonewalled by TEs and OL alike, often. difficulty shedding blocks, whereas fowler doesnt have that happen as often. In fairness, Beasley increased his strength from his playing weight to the combine/pro day. The question for him is, can he keep that weight? And will that strength transfer? Quote:and this is another thing, the defense of beasley is his numbers and his explosive step, but when you talk about shane ray in the same context, then all the sudden no one wants him. That's because Beasley is still the more explosive athlete than Ray, and he shows much better agility than Ray as well. From a pure pass rushing stand point, Beasley is better than Ray. Quote:No one's questioning Ray's explosiveness. Him, along with Beasley are the two most explosive guys in this draft (probably Dupree too). 12 sacks? Now who's talking about past tense?I absolutely question Ray's explosiveness. He has an ok first step, but like you said in the third line, he is good at timing the snap. He didn't get a single outside sack all year on plays that weren't 4th down and/or extreme passing situations with a big lead. |
