Henne is a solid backup QB.  He has a good enough game to be effective against a defense that hasn't game planned for him. There are so many other starting positions that need to be addressed.  Backup QB is way down the list in terms of priority and with the cap space we have his contract shouldn't affect our ability to sign the players we need and keep him.

Part of building around that franchise QB (which this team is doing) is having a backup QB who is competent.  He doesn't have to match the starter for capability, but he needs to have a comfort level with the offense and the ability to execute the playbook with as little variation as possible.  Chiefjag is right on this.

The Jags have had a hard time finding a good starting QB, the backup QBs have pretty much been 1 disaster after another and NOT trade worthy in any way, shape or form.

 

Also, the QB is the most important position on the team.

 

The fact that the Jags went from Leftwich to Gabbert without drafting a QB says a lot about that regime.

 

That was beyond ridiculous to go that long without drafting the most important position on the field, even if for nothing more then possibly trying to work out a future trade.

 

I guess that's one way to avoid a QB controversy.

 

Plus during that stretch they passed on Roethlisburger, Rodgers, and Flacco.

 

I know that a lot of teams passed on those guys, but it's just further proof that Shack had no clue about QB talent.

What you say you want is exactly what they've been doing.  So you should be happy and at this point shouldn't care about the backup QB spot.

Yeah, that's what makes NOT drafting a QB all those drafts really hurt.

 

They didn't even have a good QB and they still passed on drafting one.

 

Just a poor poor job done by all those responsible for drafting NFL players for the Jags.

 

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I'm sure there are several knowledgeable posters in here that could have done a better job drafting players for the Jags then the ones who did.

 

They could NOT have done any worse, that's for sure.
