In passing downs I could see teams playing Peppers at LB and matching him up on TE and RB. He covered WR's in college. I disagree that you could put any top end DB a small LB on offense in college and they would have similar production, teams would do it if they could. It isn't pro where they are so worried about the players getting injured. Peppers could probably play RB in the NFL if he wanted to and be good at it. He has great vision, speed, cut back ability, and can probably catch. Look at Ty Montgomery in GB. I think Peppers will make a reallly good SS though and the kick and punt return ability is a plus. I highly doudt he falls to the 2nd but Jack did last year and if Peppers did this year and we didn't draft a safety in the first I wouldn't think twice about drafting him.

He could play weakside LB in theory if he got stronger and better at tackling I guess. Covering RBs in the flat would be his bread and butter.


Of course you could. Peppers ran for 167 yards this year on around 26 attempts. If you took any high end athlete at DB or small LB and ran them 26 times their numbers really wouldn't be that different, especially with how bad some of those teams Michigan played were.

Ty Montgomery was one of the best return guys to come out of the draft a few years ago which that vision, speed, cut ability, and acceleration is what has gave him the ability to become a good RB for the Packers. Its the same things Peppers has, you cant just stick any guy back there and them play the RB position like they do lol. Look at Myles Jack.

Remember all these highly athletic guys would have played on both sides in high school, so its not like they would be a fish out of water doing it in college.

Myles Jack was bar-none the best RB in the NCAA, when he played. The guy was amazing. He ran with power, speed and had great hands, behind a so-so O-Line. He would've been a first round RB had he stuck with the position, but he didn't want to be a RB. He wanted to be a full time LB. I can't help but thinking what might have been, had he been drafted as a LB. We might have the best RB in the NFL playing on our team as a LB right now. He was that good. He better turn out to be a darn good linebacker or else he might live to regret his decision.

I agree. Myles was drafted as an elite defensive player, but he was an even better RB. Hopefully, Marrone could possibly talk him into lining up at RB on some trick plays. I know Jack doesn't want to be an every down RB, but maybe he might agree to play there on rare occasions. I'm not counting on it though. Just wishing.

Yeah sorry I only put 2 and 2 together after I posted it.


Most top end DBs or small lbs are very good athletes like peppers, they would have no problem running for 167 yards over the course of a year. Remember most very good athletes in college played on both sides of the ball in high school.


The reason they don't play different sides too much in college is because its better for an NFL projection to specialize in one side because they won't let them play two sides in the NFL. Unless its a rare circumstance or you are a Patriot.
