Fire Special Teams Coordinator Mike Mallory

@ryanohalloran: 5. Gus said tape of two blocked punts said nothing "abnormal" about Anger being slow getting punt off (or trying to). #Jaguars

Ahem...

Blocked/tipped extra point attempt and a punt return for a TD that was called back due to a penalty.

About a 0.01% chance he keeps his job.

Why wasn't he replaced during the bye week?

Several starters have been cut by Gus for poor play. Shouldn't the same logic apply to coaches?

Can anyone remember the last time a ST coach was fired in season? Didn't the Chargers do it a few years ago?

Not sure about the Chargers.

The Dolphins did a few years ago after ST gaffes cost the team 21 points.

Our special teams this year as a whole are probably the worst I have ever seen. And that's not hyperbole. They are an absolute joke. It is at the point where I am nervous that any field goal might be blocked.

I don't know if firing Mallory now would make it better. But I am pretty sure it couldn't make them worse.

I say just go for it on 4th down every time and go for two after the defense scores a TD. I'm comfortable with kicking a PAT after the offense scores a TD; we should just release Scobee because he won't be needed anymore. Henne can kick the ball out of bounds on the 1 kickoff we will have a game to ensure it won't be returned for a TD.

We could get rid of Anger too - not a bad plan at all....

A new ST coach is inevitable. The team needs to bring in some competition for Scobee and Anger. And find a real freaking returner. Other than MJD his first year or two, the team has not had a good returner since Reggie Barlow. BARLOW???

This is what I was thinking of but they fired him after the season:

The San Diego Union-Tribune wrote that Crosby's special teams unit in 2010 was "by some measures the worst special teams season in NFL history."[7] The Chargers allowed touchdowns on three kickoffs and one punt, and had four punts blocked and another deflected.[8] As of 2010, two teams since 1994 had allowed more kickoff returns for touchdowns and five allowed as many as the Chargers. Two teams had allowed more blocked punts, and none since 1976 surrendered a punt return average higher than the Chargers' 18.9 yards.

That would be accountability.

The crazy thing is with ST, you can't turn to the inexperience excuse - literally every ST unit in the league is made up almost exclusively of young players.

ST are your bottom third roster guys. So much youth on this team means our ST are both youn AND bad.

A couple of gutsy calls with fakes and onsides kicks but it still doesn't give Mallory a pass this year.

When the blocked punt literally was the difference in the game, yeah he needs to find new employment opportunities
