Would you trade Bortles for #1 pick in 2015?

Quote:Anyone that thinks Jameis doesn't rise to the occasion is crazy.  If FSU doesn't win the championship this year, it will most likely be because of their defense.

This I can agree with.  He has matured, and should play better in big time games.  He played better against Notre Dame this year than he did in the national title game.

Quote:Not a chance. Even if we had the first pick and didn't have Bortles, I probably wouldn't take Winston.
Agreed completely.  I'd rather have Tebow than Winston, and Tebow would be my second to last on the list of QBs in the world.

4 reasons why Bortles>Winston

Winston's throwing motion reminds me of Byron Leftwich.

Winston comes with too much off field baggage.

We already have enough crime in Jacksonville, why bring another criminal here.

All the good DB's play in the SEC.

Quote:I would be worried about how JW turns out, in a negative way.

At this time I don't see him going #1 right now, not even sure about top 5, but he will probably go in the 1st round though, if he comes out.
I thought he would be a idiot not to come out with all the seniors on the offensive line. I have seen they are regressed this year big time though. He certainly needs to prove to the NFL he can stay out of trouble.I just don't see him being able to do that task .

I think he is a top 3 college qb in the nation for sure. I just dont think that is going to translate to the NFL and i think the accuracy deficiency and trouble reading defenses is going to be showcased against a defense like ole miss.

Coughlin when asked if winning will be a focus: "What the hell else is there? This is nice and dandy, but winning is what all this is about."

Snowie, it wasn't me. It was some clueless Florida St. fan that would rather have Winston than Bortles.

Why in the HELL, would you want to trade a proven QB for an unproven QB?!?

This isn't Vegas. This isn't a damn slot machine where' you get as many tries as quarters in your pocket.. You stick with the rising star you have. Period.. Anything else is [BLEEP]..

Damn. Did Jameis bang your girl or something? You are really mad.

You are so worried about someone not bowing down to Jameis that you take everything so seriously.  I'm not saying he isnt a good quarterback, I am saying from an NFL perspective, the way he played against tough teams wasnt up to par.

I don't care what people think of him. I was just pointing out the fact that you said he "doesn't play his best in big games" theory was stupid.

To each their own, though.

Quote:With all due respect, his biggest game of his career, he didn't rise to the occasion.  He simply wasn't very good.

Yeah, I mean he only brought them back from being down 21-10 at half time and led the game-winning drive on the biggest stage in college football. He didn't play his best, but when the game was on the line, Jameis rose to the occasion. To think otherwise is simply [BLEEP].

Not to mention the guy was a redshirt freshman, and teams are pretty much game-planning to stop him.

It doesn't matter what the stat sheet says, he made the plays when the occasion called for it.

Yeah, lets not act like those coaching adjustments had anything to do with it.  It was all Jameis.  He executed a good game plan and did it well.

In the NFL its more players, not plays...college is many times the exact opposite.  If he were a legit NFL quarterback, he wouldnt look shell shocked for whole first halfves.

I'm not saying Jameis wont go in the first round, he's just not a risk I would want to take.

I see JW as a little more accurate Byron Leftwich type of QB.

We all know about his troubles off the field, but some QB needy team will take him in the first rd, probably won't be top 5, but somewhere in the 1st rd.

I really don't see him having a really high ceiling in the NFL and becoming a franchise QB myself, but who knows.

I would NOT take a chance on him, that's all I know.

It's crazy because if you would have asked me this same question last year, I would have said the Jags need to go another direction than QB this draft and wait until this year to pick up one.  Jameis would have been #1 on my list.

Since some have been taking Winston's worst games or halves at QB to point out flaws in his game, I thought I'd see what that methodology yields for some other QBs.

I'm going to look at Peyton's senior year, Luck's senior year, Rodgers' junior year, and Bortles' sophomore year.

Peyton had some real stinkers. 8 completions on 25 attempts with 1 INT against South Carolina, 12 completions on 27 attempts with 1 INT and 1 TD against Vandy, and then in the Orange Bowl against Nebraska 21 completions on 31 attempts for 134 yards with 1 INT and 1 TD.

Luck was much more consistent. Probably his WORST game was 27 completions on 41 attempts netting 256 yards, 3 TDs and 2 INT in a loss against Oregon.

Like Peyton, Rodgers had probably his worst game in his final bowl game. 24 for 42, 246 yards, 1 TD 1 INT against mighty Texas Tech. Not too different from Winston's bowl game except Rodgers lost his by 18 points.

Blake Bortles had a stinker against Memphis; 17 of 36 for 160 yards. And he threw multiple interceptions in two out of the three big games he had that year. South Carolina and the bowl game against Baylor. (Penn State was the other big time opponent)

The point is, Jameis has been remarkably consistent and accurate by any historical measure of draft prospects and his worst games would be considered good to great games for most other NFL QB prospects. I know Luck is the standard for all prospects, but no one meets that standard. That's what makes him special.

So you may have answered earlier, but I cant find it....would you take Winston over Bortles?
