Wash threw out the OTTO term right after Gus left. Saying it's a SAM Linebacker. Why didn't he say that long prior? Because Gus and his stupid defensive scheme/how he wants things run.

This, he also works under Olsen. Olsen told Bortles to not work on mechanics in the offseason and focus on working with WR's. Bortles mechanics continued to deteriorate into the season. Makes me think Olsen didn't really give two [BAD WORD REMOVED].

 

And Olsen was supposed to be a "quarterback guru".

My main problem with Hackett is he's a QB coach who oversaw one of the most striking breakdowns of an NFL quarterback mechanics in recent history.

Hackett is going with Marrone wherever he's a HC. That's his guy.

 

He obviously thinks highly of Wash. This also means Coughlin signed off on Wash. Wash is a bright mind, he ran Gus's scheme as well as you could hope for that defense. Now, Gus is gone, we got rid of all the defensive coaches, and he can run his own scheme.

Even if we kept the scheme its a big deal. We havent seriously developed anyone on defense besides Telvin. Everyone else is either a FA or a player that is pretty much the same as when they came in. Its an entirely new staff to take whats given and actually cultivate it.

Yeah, I agree.

 

Ngakoue/Ramsey were talents that were going to be good/didn't need much refinement coming into the NFL from the get go.Our LB coach is highly regarded and it seems like some people love Walker, but I'm happy we cleaned house besides Wash. That points to what you said and the fact that the defense is going to be overhauled.

Wash was only in Seattle for 2 years vs. Bradley's 4, so he may not be as stuck on the scheme like Gus was.

It is entirely possible that any given coordinator just might be capable of running more than one scheme, isn't it?
