Robinson beats out Todman in the running back battle

#61

Quote:Denard definitely deserves it. He actually played really well on special teams during the preseason, and as a RB, I like him as the change-of-pace to Toby. Just wish our offensive line had more talent. Atleast we know where the focus will go next offseason.

He had an amazing run up the middle which he subsequently fumbled right before he scored a TD last year...  I think he can be a legit weapon if he's fixed his fumbling issues!  I'm hoping to see amazing things from him!

He didn't fumble during the preseason, if it makes you feel better. I am also rooting for him, and will be looking for him on Sunday. From a physical talent perspective, he might be the most gifted RB we have.

Exactly!  I'm hoping he really took the time to learn proper ball protection techniques.  I just think back to Tiki Barber and how he squashed his dropsies issues.  I'm sure Denard can do the same!

Love D-Rob as the #2 RB. Gerhart has the strength to run up the gut and get the tough yardage, and Robinson has the speed to take it outside, which from what I've seen is what Fisch prefers to do. Just please, no more Gerhart on sweeps....

10 years ago we had Bob Hope, Johnny Cash, and Steve Jobs..... Please don't die, Kevin Bacon.

This is an interesting situation to me.

Whenever I saw Robinson this preseason I was pretty impressed with his improvements. However, Todman got more carries and more playing time. I feel, in a way, as if they are kind of hiding him. Sort of like a secret weapon.

Just a theory, but time will tell. I believe he was #2 RB all along.

A secret offensive weapon, perhaps.... Hmmmm....  Interesting....

I actually wouldn't be surprised if the coaches were trying to let Todman get as many reps as possible to ensure they were making the right decisions...  After seeing what they had in Todman, maybe they felt more confident in moving D-Rob up to #2.  Stranger things have happened.

Also a valid theory.

Or they are pretty much saying "hey DRob, here's your chance.. Get after it"

And Todman is actually a pretty good 3rd RB.

Don't forget about Storm and Josey either Smile

Quote:Well, for starters, I don't agree with the bolded and underlined.  I think the team realizes the playoffs are a pipe dream this year with either QB playing behind a patchwork O-line and throwing to rookie WRs  -- and they want the proper pieces in place when the potential franchise QB gets behind center.

Todman likely isn't part of the future, but I don't think that effects  how you decide to develop your next starting QB should have an effect on the RB3 spot.
The team isn't even starting the best quarterback on the roster. I think winning and getting as far as they can with the best talent they can isn't really the priority this year for the Jaguars. The Jaguars have been in the playoff race up until week 14 every year for the past 6 years except for two, and in two of those seasons they were in control of their own destiny. I think you'll be hard pressed to find a team that has written the playoffs off as an unrealistic possibility at the beginning of the season -- unless they're not trying to get there in the first place.

As far as Todman goes, if he's not apart of the future, I think it's beneficial for everyone involved to look for someone who might have a chance at being apart of it. I'm really high on Seastrunk and I always will be until he proves to me otherwise, and he did nothing but impress in the preseason.

Quote:Adding guys to your 53 man roster who couldn't even make 32 team's practice squad is pretty dumb.

There's nothing dumb about dropping the third running back on your depth chart who has already seen his ceiling for someone who has the potential to start for you one day, especially when you already have an established starter and depth ahead of him that brings the exact same game to the table.

I don't expect a lot of people to understand that line of thinking, but you'd be surprised how often it works out for other teams that have used the same method.

So much for DRob being on the roster bubble.

He's had so many chances and position changes, for his sake hopefully he doesnt fumble or drop any passes this year.

I'm not sure what position changes from WR to RB will do to address the fumbling.  I'm thinking the surgery he had to address nerve issues that made it difficult for him to hold on to the football will address that and the dropped passes.

Hopefully this resolves the issues he had with dropped catches and fumbles.  He hasn't looked like it's an issue in the preseason this year.

This. D Rob skill set over Todman. Only thing gave him the edge at first was the fact that D Rob was a QB learning to play RB. Hes faster and IMO tougher. Excited to see him get loose.
