Quote:a lot of good gems in there from TMD sounds as pompous as ever.

i also really liked this one.

Looks like that thread proves that TMD was the first person to call Bortles to the Jags, as that thread was dated in early January...

you do that with pretty much every single player. its the same as the situation with caldwell and mullarkey, you were all over the boards losing your crap because it guaranteed another year of mullarkey. you were already discussing how the season would play out as if it was a matter of fact. also, why are you speaking in the third person? you should spend less time embarrassing yourself here and more time brushing up on the frito lay handbook.

Coughlin when asked if winning will be a focus: "What the hell else is there? This is nice and dandy, but winning is what all this is about."

Sorry but that post proves absolutely nothing when it comes to you being the first person to call Bortles to the Jags.

I remember arguing pre-draft there was no reason to think that Bortles couldn't be just as good as Teddy.

I also thought he'd be chosen later.

I also thought Mettenberger might be the best QB in the class.

But back on Bortles. I remember watching his game VS the SEC (Scar iirc) and comparing to Teddys VS Kentucky ( a lesser SEC opp) and thought Bortles played better. Also the head to head matchup Bortles won. The division... and a bowl game I believe.

He's big, strong, and has improved quite a bit in a short time... he could be really good. Don't think you'll find a single post where I flamed the choice, though I thought it was early at the time (while also maintaining I don't know crap about diddly in comparison to an NFL GM)

But just as many were too quick to name this pick a bust and now must eat crow... We shouldn't induct this guy into the HOF just yet or anything.

Still... it is nice to be excited about Jags football again. And to be genuinely optimistic about the future.

LOL.  You also compared him to Gabbert over and over and over again between January and April.

You also said he would bust:

Guess I was too busy reading where you compared him to Gabbert and called his footage "meh."

I will need a second serving of crow. i was so upset with the pick. I was a clowney or nothing guy. Which i still contend he is a hof player twice over. however after the pick wore off the next day i was all in.

Well, the Gabbert part was wrong. Crow eaten.

I did have a concern that Bortles wasn't going to be productive enough over the course of a long season. (to be determined)

As for the other, its merely just a technicality, but I think I was the first one to actually assign Bortles to the Jags, if you go by that dated post.

Like I said in another thread, after we took him and we saw how good he was, I knew nobody here or anyone that I can readily talk to know much about anything. It was a very liberating experience. The day you realize you don't know anything is very freeing.

Lol, not to go all Plato or anything. It was good to be wrong and extremely wrong at that. On a side note Johnny Finger is doing exactly what I thought he would if that is a consolation.

It was only a handful of people screaming for the guy

Quote:I remember before the draft wanting Clowney or Bridgewater.  After they surprised me a little by picking Bortles, I immediately went out and watched some video and read some assessments and started getting excited that day.  Caldwell will not ALWAYS hit home runs but his batting average is starting to look pretty phenomenal.

So I thought we just wanted base hits!

We actually want home runs?

Worst to 1st.  Curse Reversed!

I mocked him to the Jags in September.

I think him being described as big and strong is what had Jag fans worrying (Gabbust). I prefer the description clutch, aware, mobile, and gamer mentality

No crow for me. I was chill about Bortles until Caldwell drafted him and didn't even hesitate with the timer. Also, I remembered back to all the interviews, He never said anything about Bortles. Thats when I realized he played everyone like a violin and MAYBE he knew something big about bortles that I didn't see.

With that said, I totally expected Khalil Mack as the pick.

Caldwell is making home runs look as common as singles!
I'm condescending. That means I talk down to you.

Yes, I agree with the above. People were spooked from one of the first things mentioned about Bortles being the "measurables" and "potential" because those were the first things always mentioned with Gabbert upon his draft year.
