Jake Matthews visited and worked out last Thursday

Quote:And I can see them taking him third overall if they can't trade out. He's a safe pick who upgrades two positions, RT, and RG when they kick Frenchie over to RG.

Getting a future HOF player is good enough "impact" for me.

Quote:If you remember last year, people kept saying "you don't take a RT in the first round."  We did but didn't at the same time.

And last year I was one of the ones advocating for the pick, saying it would be great to have two good tackles.

Nothing like overselling a player.  Not a shocker coming from you.

Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

No hyperbole in this post...at all.

If he is going for impact, which I also think he will, and we stay at #3, it will probably be Clowney, Mack (most likely) or Watkins.

The only other viable option is to trade out of the pick.  They're not going to pass on any of the guys above if they're on the board unless there's a seriously high value trade on the table.

Wouldn't be a fan of this pick even if we traded down. I think there are better players that will still be available.

Quote:That can't be Robinson as he can't pass-block. He's a much weightier is than that, which may present a dearth of girthability also.
Yes Robinson. I don't think it's that he can't pass block, more so than he just has less experience doing so.  He's more of a RT anyway IMO

Actually there isn't. Why couldn't Matthews be a future HOF?? He's a better prospect than Joeckel, who was a better prospect than Monroe. Matthews has got it all. Prototypical size/ quickness/ technique/ equally good vs the run or pass....

Not sure that citing him as a future HOF Tackle is hyperbole at all.

You might want to look the word up in a dictionary.

Why couldn't any player in this draft be a future HOF?

Exactly.  He could attach that tag to any player in the draft.

I think a select number of players from this class would have a reasonable chance.

When you look at Matthews, everything you want from a Tackle, he's got.

There are knocks on Matthews just like all the prospects. Personally, I had Fisher > Joeckel > Matthews > Lewan > Robinson.

You had Fisher above those guys?? Well, apparently Reid did too, and I think you both might have got it wrong in the end.

If they do go Matthews at 3, it's basically them punting.  There are higher positions of need that can be drafted there, and ones that are arguably more important as well, so Matthews would have to be quite a bit better than the DE or QB prospects for us to draft him.  All of that is entirely plausible.

So far he's winning.
