I know it's early but not much more to talk about.  My predictions

 

Alualu- Yes he did player better last year but was still pretty horrible. I can't remember 2 meaningful plays he made all year.

 

Rackley-  It's from injury or lack of talent but he is bad. 

I dont know if Alualu is D. Harvey 2.0, or a decent Dlineman that got over hyped & over paid and if he renegotiated his contract down would add good depth as a backup.

For a conditional 7th round pick, but who knows they got a 7th for Gabbert.

    Branch maybe cut If does not step up. I think Ryan Davis make it difficult for him to get on the field this year. I do think Prosinski is gone for sure especially with

Joe Legefield-Young & Sherrod Martin on the roster. Martin is a hidden gem that played for Carolina and has starting experience. Young also did the same for Indi. Caldwell did his homework on them both. Either one has the chance to start at FS. That would leave Prosinski fighting for a roster spot and I don't think he will make the cut. Rackley might not want to answer his door at training camp either. But to be honest the Draft will paint a perfect picture on the positions to watch for cuts.

I'm not so sure about Pros being cut short of training camp because he's not a big money player, that is, unless offseason roster space becomes an issue. Uche's release sent a message that anybody can be cut, but short of allowing them to compete for a spot I'd only expect pricey vets to be cut, but there aren't many players left whose release would free up at least $2 mil. I'll list the players with their savings and resulting dead money if released...


 

Marcedes - $5.45 mil savings with $2.8 dead money in the books (trade appear possible)


Posluzney - $5.5 mil savings with $4 mil dead money (Poz of course is safe, and his dead money figure would probably be too high anyways)

Babin - $2.6 mil savings with $500,000 dead money

I can see Lewis being traded at some point, especially if we draft a TE in the 4th or 5th that we like that shows some promise early in the year.

If Sherrod Martin is healthy, he's the best Safety on the team IMO. Winston Guy and Josh Evans are probably better than Pros as well and D. McCray, D. Watson and B. Ewing are strong special teamers.I also think with all the day 3 picks we'll pick up some additional ST guys. I really don't see how Prosinski makes the team.

I guess I'm remembering his better years with the Panthers. IIRC, he was waived injured in a similar situation to Dwight Lowery. If he can regain his old form I think he starts over Josh Evans at FS. Cyprien is probably better, so "best Safety on the team " was an overstatement.

I think prosinski is one of the core special teamers on the roster along with Demetrius McCray and laroy Reynolds


The difference being the other 2 have shown they may have something to offer as rotational or starting players


Special teams was a big area of improvement last year and I think for that reason he will play out his contract by which time a low round pick/ FA will have shown more on field talent and so he won't be resigned


The most obvious cut is Babin if we draft a pass rusher

branch and Davis have youth on there side and Clemons can be the veteran presence

if we added Clowney mack (even though I woulf prefer him to play linebacker) or Kareem Martin to the rotation I would be happy without Babin

That really depends on who they land in the draft, and what kind of progress he makes this off season.  Nothing is definite. 

 

I'd like to see him make this roster and contribute when he's on the field.  Hopefully the progress he's made makes him a vital part of the rotation.  If it does, then more than likely you see Babin released.

Branch started to develop nicely last year. The chances of them cutting a guy who has started to show promise and is only entering his 3rd season are pretty slim. At worst, he would get traded because a young DE coming off a 6 sack season has value. He would have to have some health problems or get into trouble to get cut.

 

If anyone at the LEO gets cut it will be Babin or Clemons. Much older and more expensive will go first.

I judge him based on the number of times he was beaten in pass protection during his 11 starts last year.  It was ugly.  I'm not optimistic that he'll be much better this year. Here's hoping anyway....
