About to finish my bachelor's. any advice on post grad jobs? Been applying for a ton of research assistant jobs since I'd like to stay in a Laboratory setting for a while.

This is correct. If people like you, they will find a way to hire you even if they aren't sure your qualified. In my first teaching interview I was asked what my area of expertise was, I told them American history. They looked at me, said we need World History and Econ, but we are sure you will be fine. They had no clue if I even knew anything about Econ, but they liked me so much they found a spot for me.


On science, I loved it and am fascinated by it. I am just weak in math ( historian here) so some of the really complicated physics and chemistry stuff is hard to understand -on in depth level. Still love it though

I will lee that in mind thanks.. Thankfully not as much math is used in science than anyone things.. It's mostly statistics and some simple measurements.

You're probably on to something, my highschool science class was much like rollerjag described. Kind of set a bad foundation to try and build on and if anything requires a solid foundation it's science. On the other hand I had a wonderful Math teacher and I think that's why I did so well in math (until calculus, that craps not math!) anyways one of my ONLY regrets is not going to college as a young man, I wish I would have the desire to learn then I do now, maybe things would be different, maybe not.

 

I always joke with my wife, when the kids are gone (the youngest will be 20 when I'm 48), I tell her I'm going to take as many physics classes as they'll let me the stuff just fascinates me and blows my mind all at the same time! 

 

I Just HATE biology and anatomy!

Obviously you don't hate Anatomy, or you wouldn't have a youngest.

Knowledge of the female viscus and interactions is complimentary with the old folk proverb.

never total to go back man. Confidence is a big factor and is dont think enough teachers instill that. Plus in a lot of places thy discourage critical thinking. It's all memorize and regurgitate which is bad.

If that is not fostered early it becomes harder to do down the line. Critical thinking is hampered by guidelines being set at the state and federal level. It's all about testing now, it is eliminating creativity and what teachers can do in the classroom anymore.

I never really developed that confidence till my senior year of college. It is tough and i think it's something that needs to be done at an early age. As for the lack of creativity and critical thinking that's going to be hard to fix in our school systems. If I ever teach i am going to try and devise excersizes and assignments that force my kids to use there brains. There is no better feeling than coming up with an awesome idea and then being able to test it. I feel bad for the kids that miss out on that.
