The Jags are projected to have $65M in cap space/$80M if they cut odrick JT & House

I think not having a good QB situation is the only thing holding us back from being almost an ideal opening for a new coach. A defense that looks like it is getting pretty good, an offense that looks to have a good receiving core, and is solid most other places. Good draft position, lots of salary cap room, great ownership.
But if Blake isn't the guy (and it certainly seems 50/50 at best) then we have a hole at the most critical spot. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Quote:Who cares what he expects? What I'm saying is that if he wants to be paid a lot more than what we're offering, he's not going to sign the extension anyway. We'd likely have to slap the franchise tag on him and he'll have to prove to us that he's back to his 2015 form, before getting the type of money he wants. I don't look for us to extend him this year, because I think there will be a major difference between what we will offer and what he wants. Between his lack of production this year and poor attitude, I think we'll be far apart on contract talks, so don't count on an extension for him.
LOL! flsprtsgod, you're right. I was thinking that their pay affected it; but I'm pretty sure I am wrong about it now that I think about it. But yea, either way we're gonna be overpaying everyone lol
Let's Get Em!!!! Go Jags!
Quote:That's an insane amount of resources for a team that doesn't have a lot of holes outside of the QB position. Just think about the spot the Jags are in for a sec, I know this year has been god-awful for all of us, but can you think of a team (in a recent memory) that had a roster ready to win "now" with $65-80M in cap space, and top 2-5 pick? I can't, the Jags are in an enviable position and if Shad Khan plays his cards right, there will be no shortage of head coach (and even GM candidates) to choose from.Being real with you here... a 2-14 team is not a ready to win team. We have a few really nice pieces on this team but it is not ready to win now. Our pass protection has been better but we can't run the ball for crap. I got nothing to say about BBINT that hasn't been said a million times. You think the defense looks good because in so many games the Jags have been so far down that other teams are running out the clock and playing more predictable offense. There is no reason for teams to drop a 40 burger on the Jags when our offense only puts up 18 points a game on average (a lot of that when the game is out of hand already). I agree is StroudCrowd, yeah we can cut those players, then Caldwell can sign a whole new batch of future dead money bums to get cut in a few years. We need to replace Gus and Caldwell, bring in experienced professional leadership, and continue to build through the draft. The QBs coming out this year look like hot garbage, but we should be able to find a few pass rushers, a run blocking o lineman, or a running back. Fournette would be my pick if we can get him. Having a legit AP type running back there got Christian Fricking Ponder into the playoffs, maybe Fournett can carry BBINT for a year until we find someone who can play.
Calling Deshawn Watson a future bust since 3/19/17. If I eat crow, I will keep this in here and proclaim JackCity a genius.

I disagree, this team is much more talented than what the record indicates, the Chiefs won 2 games just a few years go, bounced back to win 11 the next year. Imo, the Jags are in a similar spot, hampered by incompetence at both head coach and the QB position. With a competent coaching staff and QB, this is easily a 10-11 win team, especially in the awful AFC South
Quote:If it is Caldwell spending the money, what does it really matter? That guy couldn't sign a decent free agent if one fell out of the sky and landed on top of him. Free Agents rarely pan out for any team. It is the most over-hyped acquisition a team can make. A GM should be judged by the performance of his draft picks. In draft picks, he has been slightly above average.
Chiefs had a pass rush and a top 5 running back. We don't have a top 5 anything. We have 26 sacks all year, we can't force a turnover----ever. We can't run the ball for crap, our QB is awful, our TEs are a joke. We have a couple nice WRs, Ramsey looks promising, but this is a bad team.
Andy Reid worked some miracles there no doubt but this team is garbage top to bottom with few exceptions.

Second Round Picks: Cyprien: Average Lee: Looking a little better but oft hurt Robinson: Good but fallen off (bortles fault) Yeldon: Sucks Miles Jack: ???looks okay-ish Overall I would say that is pretty firmly below average.

You can't be slightly above average when three of your four first round picks are busts.
Quote:Slightly above average? Lol. You can't be slightly above average when three of your four first round picks are busts.Especially when they are all in the top 5. If you take a flyer on a guy at number 32, yeah - that's a risk. But if you can't hit on your top 5 pick year after year, you'll never get better. Which - is why the Jags are looking at a 2-14 record in year 4 of a rebuild.

It's all truth, and I had no idea about the cap space but if that's the case then we should literally be fighting for the division win next year with a new head coach and hopefully more. We all say this but I think 2017 is finally setting up to be our year. There's literally no way statistically that we can hire a worse coach so the only way to go is up from here.
Julius Thomas stays. He's a nice guy like Gus. Khan loves nice guys working for his company.
