Highlights from season ending press conference with Caldwell and Bradley

#61

At this point, I think it's certain to say no more mjd. Gonna miss him, one day we will pout him in pride. Caldwell wants to get younger it seems and it's probably best. Jags will offer a deal to him, but it won't be anything he will want

Quote:Uhm, the people actually in the press conference brought up/ mentioned the Coordinators. I gave my opinion on what they said.

How exactly was the thread hi-jacked? Answer: it wasn't, but you merely don't have an argument against my posting in this thread so you fabricate.

You're right. The coordinators are garbage.

Now what?

Appears that MJD will test free agency market and that Jags will see if they want to match whatever he gets offered.

Judging from MJD's interview a couple of days ago, I think whoever offers more money will be who lands him.

Part of me believes he can get back to being very good by reducing his weight and having a good offseason.

Another part of me thinks he's done.

It's time.  The last couple of drafts have shown us you can get a dynamic RB in the later rounds of the draft.  I fully expect us to draft one and really hope we hit on it.

I think you're on to something here.  If we all just agree with him, he'll be a lost soul and will probably go somewhere else.  I'm on board with it.

Quote:my argument is this:

Marcedes Lewis is a good overall TE.  Yes, he's overpaid.  I think it would be unwise to get rid of him and create another massive hole on this team when we already have a lot of other needs to fill.  He's overpaid but we are WELL under the cap, so him being on this team isn't limiting us in what we can do in free agency.

The Coordinators are kind of like Gus Bradley.  We can't judge them just yet.  I firmly believe the primary impairment for success is our lack of talent.  Our coordinators and coaches have developed young guys (Branch, Pasztor etc) where that hasn't happened in years previously.  This is one of the first time in years where we've had at least somewhat of a pass rush through parts of the year.  That alone is huge improvement.   I'm not claiming they did a great job, I'm saying that they did an OK job given the guys they had to work with.

Marcedes is an average TE. Average. Go through all the starting TE in this league and you'll see it. And paid like a top 5 TE in this league. Again with this "were well under the cap so its okay to overpay him" is just ridiculous. Among other things, I don't think that sends a good message as far as future contracts coming up. Players could point to Marcedes contract and say, well shoot, you're willing to pay him league best money for being only average, so why not me?.... And thats only one of the many reasons why he should be either out the door or given a major pay cut. (not restructure, accept pay cut or gone)

As for the other argument I disagree. The position coaches bear the brunt of player development. The Coordinator takes some credit due to scheme aiding in putting those players in position to succeed, no doubt. But in the case of a DL improving his QB sack total for instance, a lot of that can be traced to DL coaching he's getting.

I just don't see how you can give the DC a pass when he presides over a defense that gave up 450 points and was unable to really contain ANY of the good offenses we played. Usually in a year like this, theres at least that ONE game or 2 where you can point to and say that "Wow, the defense really overachieved that game and held a great offense down" or they outright contribute to an upset victory over said good team. We had none of that this season. The only games we were impressive on D was against the bad teams, and thats actually typical for Babich if you look at his history in Chicago. His tenure while as DC there constantly gave up too many points. And he had the personnel, so what were seeing now is a continuance of his past.

Quote:first 8 games we were outscored on average 33-11 ...0wins, 8loss

last 8 games we were outscored on average 23-20... 4wins, 4loss

A big part of that was the opposition we faced.  It is also clear improvement.  For a historically bad team early on that preaced "improvement"... they have shown improvement.  At least enough to keep their jobs IMO (the coordinators).

I get the feeling that Caldwell wants to let MJD hit Free Agency just so he can see how the market is. I'm just betting that he has a number in mind, but he knows that Drew and his agent won't even touch it until they get a dose of reality. But hey, if he can get a better deal somewhere else, I'm not going to knock the man for padding his bank account.

I'm trying to make myself more informed and less opinionated.

Stop saying whatever stupid thing you're talking about and pay attention to all the interesting things I have to say!

He probably is done as a Jag.

And in reality, is it really that big of a deal? I don't see Todman as a step down at all at this point of MoJo's career,

Todman had a 100 yard rushing game this year, Did MoJo?

Todman has quickness and burst that MoJo will never have again.....and is much cheaper, and younger and projects to be here as they build. MoJo doesn't.

Marcedes absolutely sucks and is way overpaid, our coordinators suck but our position coaches are great!  We should fire Babich, i mean look how bad he was in Chicago, ya know?  Even though our pesonnel was lackluster, he simply allowed other teams to score too many points.  And Fisch should be fired too, we simply didn't score enough points.  I agree with everything you are saying!!!

The only argument for MJD at this point would be having a guy that understands the intricacies of the passing game and blocking schemes. If Toddman can do that as well as MJD does then there really isn't any reason to keep MJD aside from the veteran presence.

Nothing was deliberately provocative that I said.

I didn't realize that I was arguing against a DC (and OC) that presided over respectable numbers this season, oh wait, he didn;t.

At this point going forward, he's better than MoJo....and cheaper. MUCH.

Draft another RB to share the duties (or trade a 3rd day pick to the Eagles for Bryce Brown) and we're not only fine, but better than last year at the position.

WOah, yeah man, he got that one vs Houston (103).....whew my sentiment is just way off huh? What I said wasn't really meant to be taken as "literal" in that line. He wasn't even close to 100 rushing in any other game.

Point is, MoJo is done. He's trending in the wrong direction, and he will cost more than a guy like Todman.

Todman assuredly with more playing time will post more 100 yard games in the future than the one that MoJo produced as a starter in 2013. We've seen some long runs as the result of the better burst Todman has. They'll add a RB through the draft to share the load with Todman or be insurance, and we'll be better off.

I know the MoJo lovers won't like this because it seems the name on the back is more important than the name on the front to those people, but I say good riddance to MoJo. Neither his attitude nor his play over the last several years were really worth it.
