Yes but probably not tonight. Give me which game of his that I should watch. That goes for Grappolo too, Im trying to catch up on the lesser known prospects.

I feel like this is a wasted request. you can just type david fales scouting report into google or bing and pull up all the information youre looking for instantly, instead of waiting for a message board poster to watch 1 or 2 games....

Colorado State, Wyoming, SDSU, Fresno State, or Navy. Any one of those is fine. Also Fales changed coaches and offense from last year.

He said he enjoys scouting QBs, and I wanted a fellow jags fans input on Fales rather than a generic evaluation this early into the draft process.

Kodiak does some good work in his scouting reports. Not to mention he's the new blog writer on blackandteal.com

Thanks man that means a lot, I appreciate it... My dream job would be a scout for the Jags. Until then I will provide you guys with my opinions and humbly accept constructive criticism.

that makes it a little better and i appreciate the effort, i just dont see how watching a couple games helps, blaine gabbert had a couple good games.... if those were the only 2 that someone wrote a scouting report on, everyone here would love to have the guy on the team.

A couple things:

1) I could have watched one or two of his games, even his best, and told you about his terrible pocket presence, his lack of anticipation, and general ineptitude. I scout on traits. Traits don't change, regardless of whether someone has a good or bad game.

2) I plan to watch at least three games for each prospect, against varying degrees of competition, and in different amounts of pressure, in order to get a handle on how they deal with a breadth of situations.

It blows my mind how some people just don't get this. Anyways, you do great work, Kodiak. Might not always agree, but differing opinions help make for better evaluations, IMHO.

EDIT: Might as well throw my own BB up since I'm already here...

1st round- Teddy Bridgewater(Top 5)/Derek Carr(Top 20)

2nd round- A.J. McCarron/Blake Bortles

3rd round- Zach Mettenberger

4th round- Johnny Manziel

5th round- Brett Hundley/Aaron Murray/David Fales

6th round- Tajh Boyd

7th round/UDFA- Logan Thomas

Ones I haven't gotten around to watching yet: Jimmy Garopollo and Jeff Mathews

FWIW - Gil Brandt ranks the top QB prospects into three tiers:

Quote:

Tier 1: Louisville's Teddy Bridgewater, Texas A&M's Johnny Manziel, and Fresno State's Derek Carr. Bridgewater and Manziel are underclassmen but have given every indication they are coming out early. In my opinion, all three have an above-average chance of going in the top 10.

Tier 2: Alabama's AJ McCarron, Eastern Illinois' Jimmy Garoppolo, Georgia's Aaron Murray (torn ACL but could be a late steal), Clemson's Tajh Boyd, San Jose State's David Fales and LSU's Zach Mettenberger (ACL tear).

Tier 3: Missouri's James Franklin, Ball State's Keith Wenning, Cornell's Jeff Matthews, Miami's Stephen Morris, TCU's Casey Pachall (great arm, suspended last year), Nebraska's Taylor Martinez, Northern Illinois' Jordan Lynch (reminds me of Roger Staubach at Navy -- competitive, good runner, but doesn't throw the greatest ball).

(These lists would change if underclassmen like UCLA's Brett Hundley and Central Florida's Blake Bortles decide to enter the draft, but both remain undecided.)

so you are telling me that if you watched a game like matt flynn's 7td game or foles 7td game and had never seen them otherwise that you would be able to tell if they were going to be good based on the "never-changing" traits that you saw?

based on your logic then, why should these guys even stay in college more than a few games? Pro scouts have to be as good or better than you are so after seeing them in 3 games they already know if they have a bust on their hands or a guy worth drafting.

get outta here man.

like I said, its a nice little thing to do to pass your time, but for the people on here to put any stock in what you say is just reaching for something to believe in.

and for what reason? No counter-logic? Also you said in your one game analysis of Johnny manziel that he can't be stopped. What about the lsu game? What if that was the only game you watched?

also, you used "luck" as an actual attribute to describe a player. Hahahahahhhahahaha

I am human and therefore only have a little amount of time. Between my commitments to school, work, and other activities, I can't watch every game of every prospect. I'm in the process of scouting Manziel, and will do more on him depending on whether he declares. (By the way, Manziel has only ever really been slowed by LSU. For comparison, Peyton Manning never beat Florida. He's still pretty good.)

Yes, luck plays a role. Have you ever watched Frank Tarkenton, Joe Montana, Steve Young, or Rodger Staubach? Not comparing Manziel to them in ability, but being lucky is a trait that some players have and some don't. To deny that is asinine.

And why I didn't want to reply was this: I was wondering if you lack reading comprehension and I was trying to be kind about it. I plainly wrote that I watch at least three games of a prospect, and then you start talking about how I only watch one game of whomever.

Maybe the reason you don't appreciate my writing is because you aren't a skilled reader.

1.) Teddy Bridgewater - Will go top 5. Accurate with an almost elite arm and good intangibles. Played in a pro system. Would like to see a few more explosive plays from him, but he had limited weapons and an average o-line, at best. Good playing against pressure.

2.) Blake Bortles - Will go late 1st round. Extremely accurate and has the "it" factor. Played in a pro system. NFL arm strength, but no better than average by NFL standards. Great playing against pressure.

3.) Brett Hundley - Will go in the 2nd round. Strong arm and very athletic. Wildly inaccurate at times. Average playing against pressure. Reminds me of a young David Garrard.

4.) David Fales - Will go late 2nd or 3rd round. Above average accuracy. Above average under pressure. Surprising athleticism. Average arm strength.

5.) Derek Carr - Will go 3rd or 4th round. Has all the tools to be a very good QB. He lacks good ball placement and played in a very simple offense which doesn't require many reads. Not particularly good against pressure.

6.) Aaron Murray - Will go 4th or 5th round. Above average all around with solid production. ACL injury drops him a round or two.

7.) A.J. McCarron - Will go 4th or 5th round. Also above average all around, but seldom had the offense put on his shoulders. Slightly less arm talent than Aaron Murray as well.

8.) Zach Mettenberger - Will go 5th round. A little bit of a statue and will struggle if moved off his spot in the NFL. Very good arm talent if given a clean pocket.

9.) Tajh Boyd - Will go 6th round. He's a playmaker more than a QB. He can be wildly inaccurate from the pocket and is slow in his reads. He usually is pretty careful with the ball though. Good developmental guy.

10.) Johnathan Manziel - Will go 6th round. Someone will pick him just from his playmaking ability. He's too short and will struggle from the pocket. Too often he just throws the ball up and yells, "500!!!" Boom or bust.

11.) Casey Pachall - Will go 7th round. 1st or 2nd round talent, but has substance abuse issues and injury issues. Too intriguing of a prospect for all 32 teams to pass up.

I like Kodiak's input on the draft, it's helpful and a lot more informative (especially to we who don't follow college FB much and don't know many players) than the deep "he sucks" type of analysis often seen here. Keep it up K-man.
