Del Rio should have been handled in 2005 specifically with the Wild Card game QB fiasco in mind. Garrard earned the playoff start and Del Rio fixed up Leftwich with an air split for his ankle and decided that was good enough. John Madden was being kind to not make a complete idiot out of "Alibi" Jack.

 

By the time Garrard finally entired the game, it was obvious that Del Rio just wanted David to get ripped in half.

I had to like this, because that was absolutely one of the best examples of a Del Rio blunder.

NFL Network is reporting that the Jacksonville Jaguars have knocked out Gary Kubiak from the NFL coaching ranks.

 

Good.

 

Where does it say that? I only read they were sick of losing after their 11th straight loss, which means it is only a coincidence we got him fired.

 

Is this the first time ever that a coach got fired because of losing to the Jags?

 

No coach was ever fired just for losing to a certain opponent. The Jaguars were the final straw for Bob McNair, who already was thinking about firing Gary Kubiak.

I thought everyone knew he said before the game he was retiring after the season. No way would the Dolphins have fired him if he chose to continue coaching.

 

There is a better chance of the Texans drafting Bridgewater and hiring his head coach (Charlie Strong) than any of those other scenarios.

 

Rick Smith made it very clear he only will look at coaches who have NFL coaching experience, which keeps Strong off the list of candidates.

But Del Rio went to the playoffs twice, won one game, had a almost even .500 record. They are very similar. Kubiak never won the division when Manning was in it either.

Yep, we were terrible because the entire offensive line went on IR in the first 3 weeks.

I find it interesting that nobody is saying if the timing was surprising or expected. I always thought the Texans would wait until the regular season ends.

I'm pretty sure they know how to get beyond the first down marker. Unless it's 3rd and very short, there's almost always going to be some routes that go short of the sticks.

 

There were 2 times last night where a better thrown ball would've given the WR the opportunity to pick up the 1st even though it was thrown short of the sticks.

I wasn't being literal with that. The point was that we went from having probowl level guards and a good center who got great push for our run game, to a bunch of backups who looked more like this year in the rushing game. That was the biggest difference. Both Freddy and MJD YPC fell off a cliff that year (phrase = went way down).

I wouldn't say they were loaded, but they had enough talent that it was clear that they were underachieving. Coaching indeed was an issue during that era,  but you've always been one to defend Jack, so its no use...

After watching Schaub last night compared to what Keenum has given of late, its pretty clear that starting Schuab would be the move of a team that was being honest with its claims of trying to win out their remaining games....but if you want to continue to pretend that the Texans aren't tanking, be my guest.

I'm shocked. The Jags are an elite team, and definitely in consideration for the Super Bowl. The Texans put up a good fight, but what can you really do against the might of the Jaguars?
