I heard if Mizzou wins, it should be Mizzou vs Bama.

 

 

Ive had to turn ESPN off alot today they are devoting 20 min a show to explain their case.

 

From who?  Alabama fan?  Nobody from ESPN is saying that.  The two guys  from ESPN who are pro-SEC are Cowherd and Finebaum.  All they say is that the SEC Champ should get in against FSU or OSU.  That's all.

There is no reason a team that did not play in its conference's championship game should play for the national championship.

When the BCS did it in the past, that team got blown out, showing everyone why they did not play in the Big 12 Championship Game. So there is no reason to do it because people hate blowouts.

I always had no doubt that the SEC was far and away the best conference in college football (well, the top 2 or 3 teams in the conference are among the best).


But, I'm starting to wonder if the whole conference from top to bottom is near as strong as we have all thought these past few years.


Causing my question for this is Missouri and Texas A&M. Those schools just moved into the SEC from the mighty Big 12. Neither team was really a Big 12 juggernaut. Missouri would be good every 3-4 years. A&M really struggled for a long time until they got Johnny Football and a new coach.

Now, only in their 2nd season in SEC, Missouri is in the Conference Championship, and A&M has had good success and is definitely competitive with the other schools.


No doubt, the top 2-3-4 teams in SEC are strong, but regarding the whole conference as some great "level of competition" is starting to fade, in my eyes.


That said, the bowl records have been good. We'll see how that plays out this bowl season.

I think Mizzou wins. They have a better scoring average, better defensive scoring average, and better team sacks than Auburn. They throw 3 six-four receivers at you and a 3 headed monster in the run game. Their defensive front 4 are the best in the conference and Michael Sam is a monster.

 

I think they will jump Alabama too, because their BCS ranking is only 11-thousandths behind Alabama and another win will propel them over Alabama who will have one less win. But there's always that Alabama bias in the voters polls. Nonetheless, if Alabama , a non-participant in the championship game) gets the nod over the Conference Champion then there is no point in playing the conference champion game.

From top to bottom I think there has been a dip the last two seasons. I still think though it is still the top conference today.

Cowherd is not all wrong. Not to say that Nebraska, Penn St., whoever else won't win titles again but kids, for now, want into the SEC.

I did not think about that, but pointed out earlier this season only half of the SEC is good. What people forget is the SEC has 14 teams, including:

 

Kentucky

Tennessee

Vanderbilt

Ole Miss

Mississippi State

Arkansas

 

The first five are perennial losers. Arkansas had some good seasons recently, but usually sucks.

 

Also, former powerhouses Florida and Georgia were unusually bad this season, making the SEC not as good as it used to be.

I normally think Cowherd is a moron, but I agree with him there. Nebraska will never be the Nebraska of old. They're just an above average program now. Same with Penn State.

Past accomplishments should have no bearing on this year.  

 

To answer your question, you do so because that is how the BCS is set up.  You are punished often times for playing tough opponents.  Hard to feel sorry for an SEC not getting in it when they have gotten the benefit so often in the last 7 years against other 1 loss teams.  Certainly you can make a case for Auburn if they beat Mizzou and I think they should have a shot, just not in this format.  Next year they would.
