Now can we be realistic about Blackmon

Quote:Perhaps what happened is that after his huge game a few weeks ago, defenses rotated their coverage toward him.  Hence fewer targets and fewer catches.

Do people here honestly expect Blackmon to get 100 yard games every single week??? No NFL WR does that.

This past game was the first real "dud" he's had since last year. The week before he had 6 catches for 58 yards, which isn't a bad week for a WR - if he'd merely average that stat line all season he'd total 96 catches and close to 1000 yards.

As said, Dez Bryan has had FIVE such weeks (duds like Blackmon's last game) since the beginning of the 2012 season....I guess according to some of you, he's not good enough either.

by "all kinds" you mean one from last week?

LOL, I know right??

Quote:Let's let him play a few more games this season before we crown him the next Megatron. He had a good couple of games in week 5 and 6. In the last two weeks he's virtually disappeared.

Just like this guy in the first four games of his 2nd season:

I'm not saying Blackmon is the next Megatron, who could possibly be regarded as the top receiver in NFL history by the time his career is done. Nobody could live up to that label. But Blackmon is a lot better than his critics on this board ("possession receiver") give him credit for. He does need to keep off the booze, and that's a concern. But on the field he's a terrific receiver.

If we traded any WR, it would / should be Shorts. Mike Brown can take Shorts' spot.
I get that trading Shorts would have helped ease the embarrassment of your ridiculous C3P0 assertions - but I think you are silly to have floated him as a trade candidate.

Have you considered that in the 2 games since Brown returned Cecil has produced 15 catches for 154 yards?  Blackmon/Shorts/Brown are a good combo.  If you replace Shorts with Brown - who replaces Shorts?

A draft pick next season....if not Burton or Williams.

I don't know if you have noticed, but Jerry Sullivan seems to be pretty good at developing WR talent.

I'd have no fear of replacing Shorts' position in the lineup. He isn't nearly as good as some of you seem to think. Rarely wins battles where you have to fight for the ball with the defender and has 2 cinder-blocks for hands.

I'd prefer to keep Shorts but I do think he is replaceable. That said he's been pretty consistent production wise. So has Black on and Brown.

So we should develop them for 2 years and trade them?  Makes perfect sense.  WRs that put up 900 yard seasons with Gabbert/Henne at QB are a dime a dozen, right?

LOL.   He's on pace for 92 catches for 1100 yards.  You don't do that with brick hands.  You're really bad at this hyperbole thing.

J Black has already proved he is one of the best young receivers and we will be describing him as elite when Teddy arrives.

Our receiving platoon is shaping up nicely. The addition of a 6'4" / 6'5" physical guy would probably be the finishing touch for this group.

I don't want to trade "them", Just Shorts.

And yes, he does have cinderblocks for hands. Have you not seen all of his drops this season?

Mike Evans would be a perfect missing piece for what you are asking for. Shame we probably won't be in position to draft him.

Many of the top players in the league including Jimmy Graham, Vincent Jackson and AJ Green have very high drop rates. No need to over react to some drops, especially with a sprained SC joint. That makes raising that arm even the slightest bit painfull, let alone trying to cushion the force of a ball being rocketed at you.

DeVante Parker would represent better value in the third. No way Evans makes it out of the top10 barring a freak injury.

And if you are really trying to discredit Blackmon as a premium receiver you might want to go and get diagnosed with glaucoma already.

They are saying that Dave (GM) is trying to get a 3rd round pick for Justin Blackmon from the Ravens...

That was not Caldwell wanting to do that above deal in the link - that was a writer, a clueless one at that - trying to match teams with needs to deals....

If Caldwell would have dealt Blackmon at all - but especially for such a tiny return as a 3rd rounder he should have been fired on the spot.

Caldwell might not be all that good, but he isn't THAT dumb.

Are you this dense, or are you so agenda-centric that you think everyone else is dense?

Go back and have someone read that article to you again.
