Flag Burning: To ban or not to ban?

If we are talking about medal of Freedom that I agree with you. Not Medal of Honor tho.

I guess we'll need to wait to see what penalty Trump feels Americans who throw up a Nazi salute deserve.

Trump was trolling. He made all the Hillary people and (CNN, MSNBC, ect) look stupid because they freaked out and said "UNFIT 1st AMENDMENT GRRRRAAA" but this flag law he referenced was written by Hillary in 2005.

Of course he was trolling, behavior which would make him a pariah here. Adolescent behavior has become the norm.

How is anything Hillary did relevant? She was wrong, too.

Co-sponsored by Hillary, but did not make it out of committee, IIRC.

Your point stands... all depends on who says it determines the reaction.

But then, it's obvious by now the left is going to spin/complain/spit vitriol about anything Trump says or does.  2000-2008 all over again.  Reflexive, destructive criticism.

As much as I hate to see the flag burned or trampled upon by those who feel this is a proper method for protesting, that's their protected right under the first Amendment, whether I disagree with them or not.  I don't think a ban is necessary here.  When I heard what Trump said, I cringed a little bit, but that wouldn't be the first time.

Agreed.  They must do everything within their power to diminish and de-legitimize Trump.  It's all they can do at this point.

it's still Trump vs the media and that war is not over

i doubt Trump even writes his own tweets anywa. so CNN talking heads complaining that Trump spends too much time on twitter is just silly.

you know what i like about twitter?  it's FREE. Obama goes on million dollar golf expeditions.  Ya, im sure that's all business.  complaining that Trump uses twitter because he should have more important things to do is really stupid.  Twitter take 30 seconds to post something.

Or fly the Confederate flag.   How about we take away the citizenship of anyone who flies the Confederate flag?   Where do we stop when we go down this road?

lol ... because the right was so prepared to give Obama a chance ... oh, wait. i forgot about the Tea Party rallies and how many GOP leaders said it was their intent to see that Obama would be a one-term president with a failed agenda - you know - spin/complain/spit vitriol.

Funny how many Trumpettes suffered amnesia recently.

It's not just the volume of Twitter posts, which I don't think necessarily limits his ability to do his job. It's the content.

I've gone back and forth over this internally. I believe in freedom of speech and reasonable demonstration. I might find your beliefs and views extreme or highly indifferent to my own. And I may not even flat out respect you as a human being for some of your views or beliefs. But, it's a protected right in our country. And we can't have a double standard when it comes to that right otherwise you'll leave that rabbit hole wide open and we may never reach a point where a line is drawn in the sand.

The irony, however, that I find in a lot of this. And probably mostly in my own humor. I just find it odd and hilarious that people will get upset about how the flag is treated here with a burning here and there. Yet, they're okay with men wearing those god awful red, white and blue shorts every year during July 4th or these little tinny boppers running around in red, white and blue bikinis or thongs. People will literally eat off a red, white and blue plastic set or paper plate as well. And wipe their disgusting faces with a red, white and blue napkin too.

So at what point do you stop with the nonsense? The biggest kicker of it all though, is that, when you buy one of those flags in your nearest or local super mart. You all do realize it's a piece of cloth or plastic that's been developed in China correct? And then exported from China and imported over here to us to buy and wave around. Shouldn't we be more disgusted with that fact right there alone? That our flag is being mass produced every year in a foreign country? Instead of right here at home? That bothers me more than anything.

It's just like this kneeling during the anthem trend. Nobody in the NFL cared about our military until 2009. Now they profit off of it by selling you military style football wear. And it's a joke. I can guarantee you more than half these fans don't stand and salute during the anthem when they're alone at home with their families in their living rooms. Does that make them disrespectful? That flag also represents more than just our military, the men and women who fought and died for it. It also stands for a country that, let's face it, has seen it's fair share of ugliness and barbaric behavior. It stands for an ideology that's evolved, progressed, regressed and torn and divided itself for what seems like since it's inception. It just comes with the territory. No matter where you live in this world.

Do I love my country? For sure. 110%. I love my country. I may not always like what congress and our government heads and leaders are doing. But, I wouldn't want to be anywhere else but where I am at here. But it's easy for me to say that because I can say with full confidence that I have so far lived a very good and comfortable life compared to other people who might not be able to claim nor say the same. And I am glad I am capable of seeing that and not getting offended by an athlete, person or citizen that has every right to exercise their right of displeasure with our country whether I like it or not. Whether I respect it or not.

Life goes on.

No it doesn't. The US flag represent the whole of the USA with all its flaws and virtues, not just the veterans.

Very true but veterans do tend to take it more personally when the flag is disrespected. We literally put our skin in the game.

The Clintons do the same thing renting space to the secret service at their home in Chappaqua and in Harlem at the family slush fund operation.

I'm pretty sure homosexuals take it a little more personally then most when a rainbow flag is "disrespected".

Creation of sacred cows--symbols that are above criticism--is a great way to end up in a totalitarian society. My thoughts on flag burning have been covered (tl;dr, it's distasteful and draws more attention to the action than the cause), but telling people what symbols they can and can't deface is a lot like what North Korea and Iran have been up to for the past few decades.
