Couldn't have said it better so I'm quoting you here.  This trade was garbage in terms of recouping value.  Monroe could be the most undervalued offensive lineman in the whole NFL.  He was a rare bright spot in our lineup.  With all our cap room, I don't see the issue in giving him the franchise tag next year and then seeing how the rest of the season progresses before assessing if he should be dealt.  He is only 26.  He is entering his prime and will likely be an even better player next year.

How do you know they didn't try and had no takers?  That's the likely reality, since they probably decided they were going to select Fisher/Joekel (whoever was left) well before the draft.

The Chiefs wanted a second (which nobody offered) and were offered a third. The Dolphins traded that third they offered for Albert for two fourth round picks. We got a fourth and a fifth.

 

So the market value for Albert was essentially two fourths. We got a fourth and a fifth for Monroe.

I believe they kept Monroe because he A. gave them flexibility and B. May have kept him had he played better.  I believe his performance along with Luke's struggles at his position factored in. 

 

Listen, I think Caldwell deserves some criticism.  I don't agree with everything he has done.  But damn, some people here criticize everything he has done up to this point.  When posts are "This team is a joke, they are going to move in two years, I laugh at this team all the time" then you have already made your mind up.  Anything he does will be criticized by these types of posters.  You can't have an intelligent conversation with a person like that.  Because that persons mind is already made up.  Step back, take a breath and first try to understand why a GM would make such a move.  It is okay to disagree, but posting complete mindless garbage brings this board down.

There has to be someone willing to trade for Lewis or MJD so making moves are not under Caldwells control. Looking to trade Shorts is crazy, he is the start of the rebuild along with Blackmon, Joeckel, Cyprien,and Gratz.  Posluszny I would hold on to because of his play and you need his experience on the young defense. Maybe we can get something of Jason Babin if he plays well but I doubt it. Lowery might be an option we will see.

The value is relative. He may not have been worth $10 million for us, but to them he might be and you can be assured they've taken it into consideration before the trade.

Are you high? Regardless of how "deep" a draft is, it's tough to get meaningful NFL contributors that late in the draft. Sure, sometimes you get a steal, but more often than not, latter round picks amount to nothing.

 

Monroe is one of the better tackles in the league. He's not great, but he's lived up to his billing as a Top 10 pick. 

 

I have no problem with trading him, especially if he wasn't planning on staying anyways. But third-day picks for a very good LT? We got raped.
