Could Hackett promotion mean Interim HC Doug Marrone is on the way?

Quote:How did Doug Marrone win nine games in his second season with the Bills? It wasn't his QB, a guy named E.J. Manuel. Marrone may not be very good but he must have done something right in Buffalo.
He won 9 games because jim schwartz is a very good defensive coordinator with at the time an excellent defensive line. The offense had very little to do with their success.

Quote:That was one thing so many posters wanted: Jim Schwartz for  DC. I don't know why JS picked the Eagles, but he is definitely doing good things in Philadelphia.

I agree with the decision to fire an offensive assistant first.

Two reasons why I believe Jim Schwartz chose Philadelphia were the opportunity to coach under a HC ( Doug Pederson ) who was entering his 1st season as Eagles HC.   Unless something totally unforeseen happens,  Pederson will have the opportunity to be the Eagles HC for at least a 2nd season.    The other reason is Schwartz is from Baltimore.   This would provide his family an opportunity to be close to their roots.    I think this is more of a factor than many believe is the case.

In other words he wanted to know he boss would not be on the hot seat a year later. Makes sense.

A popular reason suggested here was the Eagles offered him a higher salary. I don't know if that is true.

As long as another team would have offered Jim Schwartz a competitive salary compared to the Eagles,  I don't think salary would have been a determining factor in Jim Schwartz' decision on Defensive Coordinator offers.  Schwartz made a ton of money from his contracts as Lions HC,  including an 8 digit salary for seasons after he was already fired.   Schwartz came to Buffalo to work under Doug Marrone at a relatively low salary because he was already being paid a large amount by the Lions organization.   Schwartz very likely wants to be an NFL HC again and have a better outcome the 2nd time around.   That's probably much more important to him than what he's been paid as a Defensive Coordinator.   Combining this with the factors I previously mentioned,   this is why I believe Schwartz chose the Eagles.
