Nah there were lots of people that said he had no vision at LSU. My favorite was a quote that I pasted many times during the predraft: "Fournette doesn't need a fullback because he needs someone to block for him, Fournette needs a fullback he can follow to show him where the hole is". Slightly paraphrased now that it's been years later...

It’s laughable really.

The good news is... running back isn’t a hard position to replace. The fact that we wasted a 4th overall pick on him doesn’t matter. That is a sunk cost. We need to evaluate whether he can be an effective running back and we need to find competition for him.

Carlos Hyde may be that guy, who knows.

It was indeed discussed ad nauseum here pre-draft.  About six or seven of us regulars that saw it were chastised for pointing it out. As the draft got closer, several draftniks out in the twitterverse and a few big named talking heads raised a red flag about it as well. 

I do think he can still do well behind a better line if used more creatively as part of a committee. 
His speed is still a weapon to be utilized.

You keep him around and you fix the offensive line. I do think you need to draft another rb or use other running backs when possible. Feeding him 20+ times a game isn’t worth it and he hasn’t earned that type of load. What a stupid pick, geez. Thanks Dave and Tom!

Well looks like we won't have RB heading into 2019 as I initially said. I know you guys will say that we have Hyde but no way on Earth they will keep him after he refused to come in and play. Fourtnete is good as gone now.

What is the cap hit if we keep Grant? That's only guy I see staying.

Grant could probably be kept pretty cheap as he's coming off a pretty ugly for a RB. 
The cap hit is whatever he agrees to as he's unrestricted.  Don't know if he'll still have that burst of speed though. 

I think this whole thing is still very up in the air. 

We could just as easily see Fournette/Hyde/Grant/FB-Bohanon as we could see:

Williams/Late-Round-Pick/UDFA/FB-Dmitri Flowers

Who knows?

Yeldon was active and didn't take a snap the entire game, while Hyde took the final rushes for us at the end of the third quarter.  Maybe Hyde refused to come in in the 4th quarter, but all signs point to Yeldon, especially since he liked a tweet that night saying he should pack his bags and leave the Jags for good.  Seems like he's been checked out for the last couple weeks, which is unfortunate because I would have liked to see him return.

I would guess that is highly unlikely.  If he was a "healthy scratch" I don't believe that he could have dressed and he would have been on the inactive list.  Which ever player supposedly "refused to go into a game" was handled internally.  Anything in the media is only speculation.

But I think you're right about the speculation - I've seen nothing quoting a source naming a player.

Nobody knows for sure.  Based on the actions of the team, it might have been Barry Church who refused to go in.  That's been speculated as well, so saying we should walk away from Hyde based on an assumption is probably a little over the top.  

I see Grant being re-signed on the cheap because of the injury.  I also think they'll explore the draft and rookie free agency to see if they can find a gem.  

I see the depth chart as we enter OTAs and mini-camp as Fournette/Hyde/Williams/Grant/rookie.  Fournette is going to be challenged to earn his pay this year, and that means he's going to be expected to show up for everything, including the voluntary stuff.  He allowed himself to get out of shape, and based on what they've been reporting locally, he hasn't been particularly attentive to professionalism this year.  He falls asleep in meetings, is on his phone during meetings, shows up late for therapy, and finds ways to get suspended for fighting.  The guy had a train wreck of a year, but the talent is still there.  The team yanking the guarantees might actually motivate him to wake up from his rock star fantasy and take this thing seriously.

I seen that Fournette was sleeping in meetings and playing on his phone and always late I guess I am confused why they didn't deal with this during the season. Should of traded him before the deadline but he was injured so maybe they were stuck with him for the year.

Trading him before the deadline wasn't an option regardless of the injury.  The guaranteed money was still on the table at that point.  

We don't know if the team was trying to deal with this internally during the season.  They'd never made that public.  When they suspended him last year for violating team rules, they originally intended to make it a 1/2 game suspension and he pitched a fit with Marrone according to Mark Long at the AP.  So, they suspended him for the entire game.  

With the guaranteed money off the table, the Jaguars actually have the upper hand.  If he doens't tow the line and make significant strides toward fixing the issues he has as a pro athlete, they can dump him.  Nobody is going to pay him what he's making here, so I think that will motivate him to do whatever he has to to assure he gets paid. I also suspect Wheatley ran a soft RB room so these guys got away with murder. Look for the new RB coach to be a little more in line with the heavy handed ways of old when TC was head coach.

Fournette and Yeldon are gone, I hope. Hyde is a bull. I don't know the numbers, but I bet he gets more yards after contact than the others. Unfortunately he hasn't really produced much in the last couple of games. Then again, like the D doing just enough to get by, Hyde might be making a business decision based on the decimated O line. Anyways, I would like to see him back next season.
