Westbrook as the #1?

I’m going with Conley. But the cool thing right now is that you can make a case for a number of our WRs having great seasons.

I'm tempering my excitement for Cole. I've been thinking he's a longshot to make the roster, but if Lee ends up on PUP to start the season that would certainly let Cole stick around at least early on this season.

Let's review Cole's history with the team...

• Cole stood out as a UDFA having acquired acclaim as the "the best WR in Division II football," and he ended up making the 53-man roster.
  
• As a rookie Cole was very impressive making big catch after big catch and leading to speculation that he might be our top WR heading into 2018.
  
• After the first two weeks of 2018, it looked like he'd live up to this billing with a 2-game total of 10 catches for 170 yards and 1 TD.
  
• After week two, things started to fade. He had 5 catches week 3, but for the rest of the season he'd never top 4 catches and he never did have another TD.
  
• As the weeks went on he started falling behind the other WRs eventually giving way to DJ Chark and falling out of favor altogether.
  
• Down the stretch Cole completely lost focus and started dropping passes. Did he hit that sophomore wall?
  
• This offseason we went into the draft we expecting a new WR, but the team opted to stick with the guys they had while bringing in Foles' buddy Conley.
  
• So far in camp, Cole looks like the guy who caught their attention as a UDFA. He's not being hit yet, but he's showing off some very flashy catches. 
  

So far so good, but Cole is always going to look good in underwear practices. I need to see that mental toughness from him allowing him to stay focused. I need to see he's not just going to flame out again with the pads go on. We have to know this because I can't see the team sticking with 6 active WRs. It looks like Dede, Conley and Chark are locks to make the roster. Lee isn't going anywhere given his contract situation, but he might start the season on PUP and that should allow for two more WRs early on. I'm really like Terrell Pryor with his ability to show up in the red zone, so Cole should stick. That said, what happens if Lee doesn't go on PUP? It's just really hard for me to see them keeping all six with roster spots as tight as ever.

Well I'd disagree on that aspect to be honest. Only really see Dede as potentially having a great season  , at best Cole probably just matches his rookie year. Maybe Chark takes a good sized leap forward but the rest kind of are what they are for me

What I meant was a WR having 800 yards. Would it shock you if Chark, Conley, Westbrook or Cole bad 800 yards? Who would shock you the most?

I think Westbrook will be *our* #1 WR, but if you told me someone emerged from our corps to be a real WR1 I would say it's Chark...even if that is unlikely. I think Dede is solid, but that his ceiling is WR2 level.

It would shock me if Conley had 800 based on everything we've seen from him in the NFL so far. Chark too but that's more because I think he tops out at third in targets amongst the WRs

Jaguars OC John DeFilippo said he has a much better opinion of the team's receivers than he did when he first was hired in January. He especially likes the fact that there are different types of receivers. Plus, Marqise Lee hasn't practiced yet as he returns from a knee injury so Lee's return will only make the group better in the fall. Based on what’s happened throughout OTAs, Cole has clearly learned a lot and is definitely headed up. The Jaguars’ receivers have been the most impressive position group and Cole is atop the list. The addition of [font=Georgia,]Nick Foles has obviously helped, but Cole has regularly gotten behind coverages and hauled in several deep passes.[/font]

Most importantly, he hasn’t dropped a pass in 7-on-7 or 11-on-11 drills.

I'll reiterate my assertion that this WR group can provide the production necessary to make the Jags new offense function effectively. 

They may not put up gaudy numbers as individuals, but they shouldn't need to with the expected use of backs and tight ends in the passing attack.
