Defensive Scheme

Has Ramsey pressed anyone at the LOS yet? Watching the Chargers I just kept wondering why our 6"1 Corner wasnt bullying Travis Benjamin

Quote:Its a scheme that every team in the league knows how to beat fairly easily. Its probably the simplest scheme in the NFL , its effective in Seattle because they have multiple all pros at a few spots. While yes the execution isn't there , the players are being put in bad spots due to the scheme.I have to go along with this. It's a good scheme only if you have enough 'all-pro' level players and those players are in the right positions to be useful. I guess this is an example of the HC 'sticking with his guns' even when it's obvious to everyone that we don't have the players on our defense to make it work. We do have good players on our defense... but not the one's needed to make the modified 'Seattle' defense work here. Clearly a case of trying to make the square peg fit into the round hole instead of finding a round peg or cut a square hole. And why is this so? Maybe it's a reluctance to move away from what he had success with in Seattle. Maybe he's just stubborn. Maybe he just doesn't know how to run anything else. Maybe he refuses to change because it would be an admission that he was wrong and his pride keeps him from doing so. Maybe because he keeps hoping to get the personnel to run his defense scheme but Dave can't get what isn't available. Or maybe we do have adequate personnel to run the scheme but they just haven't learned it very well yet. We don't know. What we can pretty well count on though is that if this issue isn't fixed quick then achieving at least an 8-8 season is not going to happen and Gus can say goodbye to coaching in Jacksonville.

You would have to think that no matter what he's being told by higher ups, that he has to have this in his mind as the year goes on and would be changing anything and everything he can to make his job safe.

Not an easy thing to get the hang of right off the bat. Yup. He was schooled by a veteran QB. Quote:why are we always the training program for NFL noobs? Part cost and part look who our head coach is right now.
Birth of the Franchise - November 30, 1993
Death of the Franchise - November 29, 2011 Fans deserve better. Thanks for all the good times too many are in the past. Quote:This, it's actually quite simple, any "zone based scheme" (cover 2, Tampa 2, cover 3) is going to get picked apart by the most average of QB's if you can't get home with 4, you don't necessarily have to "rack up sacks" but it's important to at least effect the QB, make him uncomfortable and force the ball to come out quick. Rivers got rid of the ball pretty darn quick on a lot of plays that were still very effective against this defense. (Just like Brady did vs. Seattle the past two times they met) The underneath short stuff is a vulnerability too often. I agree that the scheme needs consistent pressure to work of course, but it's more broken than just that. Yes, more speed at LB will help but they also need to be able to get aligned without resembling a three stooges routine just before the snap. In San Diego when they sent out a bunch to one side Poz, Cyp and Ramsey were like: ![]() ....and Telvin was over there spying the RB like: ![]() OOOOooo, let me at 'em, let me at 'em. #8 in passing yards allowed
Tied for #15 in sacks
Making up
Evidence Depending on Information Available Quote:#8 in passing yards allowed #28 in points allowed per game.
Quote:#8 in passing yards allowed This stat is misleading, they played well against the Packers but there was absolutely no reason for Rivers to continue to dice up this defense last Sunday, the game was over midway through the 2nd quarter.

Quote:problem is, this may be the only way he knows how to coach. he is staying true to who he is and what he believes. problem is, it probably won't work Yeah I saw that part in the post I was responding to but I just still don't get that, even if it's only what he knows then why not try stuff that almost everyone is saying like put Jack opposite Telvin and forgot the scheme he's trying to run. If it doesn't work, he's getting fired either way but "smart" people usually figure out ways around their deficiencies. Guess I'm thinking too much into it though. The Jaguars don't have the personnel on the defensive line to run Gus's "scheme" effectively, it renders it useless if you can't effect the QB with 4 down linemen. Gus is simply too stubborn and lacks the requisite creativity to do anything different, the Jaguars (because of it's lack of pass rushers) are better off playing a defensive scheme similar to Arizona, James Bettcher (Cardinals d-coordinator) recognized his defenses inefficiencies last year in the pass rush department, so he decided to adjust. First by bringing more SPEED to the field by (unorthodoxically) moving their young SS (Deon Buccannon) into a hybrid Mike-linebacker role, he then decided to play man PRESS coverage across the board while blitzing on obvious passing situations. Post if the day. Bravo my good friend. Well done. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Quote:#8 in passing yards allowed Our defense rises to the occasion when we're down by 28 points or more and the opponent attempts to run out the final 20 minutes.
Serious question, would have the talent to run a 3-4 scheme? I hear a a lot of people suggesting the switch.
If Wade Philips came in here and lined us up like Denver, how much more successful would we be?
IT WAS ALWAYS THE JAGS
Quote:Serious question, would have the talent to run a 3-4 scheme? I hear a a lot of people suggesting the switch. I like the 3-4 but you really need a run plugger in the middle. I don't think we have that 330+ pound dude. ![]() |
