For the Jaguars draft complainers!

Couple things
This defense better be top 5 with all the additions they’ve made. They have heavily invested key assets into this defense. If they flounder, it won’t be pretty. I’m not upset at Walker and Lloyd but the Jags needed an influx of speed at the playmaker position. They didn’t draft that at all…. Not even taking flyers in the late rounds on WRs. They just kept taking corners for whatever reason. I’m not even saying that the late round WRs are going to be great but at least take a chance. Maybe they can take a flyer on Fuller or someone after signing Cam to an extension. Overall, excited to watch this D and am skeptical of the offense taking a big leap (although Pederson may be able to work some magic). We show less advertisements to registered users. I feel kind of how I felt after FA, we got better but not by the extent we should have considering we had the #1 pick in every round and an extra high third rounder. Just looking at a lot of other teams without nearly the capital we had and I am very jealous of their classes.
I actually like the Walker pick more than almost everyone here. I think his floor is higher than people say and obviously his ceiling is immense. I love Lloyd the player, but if they were really open to taking another LB in the third then it was a shortsighted trade. Just taking one glance at this LB class it was obvious there was going to be a really good LB at 65 or 70. Trading up and passing on two important opportunities to add a pass catcher and speed to the offense to take a LB when you knew you were going to get another very good one in the 3rd was not a good way to build the roster IMO. We could have had Muma, Skyy or Pickens, and Jelani or Dulcich or Tom instead of just Muma and LLoyd...and I think we would be a better team if we had spread the wealth. I think day 3 was a disaster from every angle. Thank god we got Austin in UDFA. I will be surprised if our UDFA class isn't better than our day 3 class lol. I don't like the front office. Overspent in free agency resetting the market in bad ways. Bullseye had a nice consequence thread on how it pushed the WR run in the draft. We had bad fits with our draft picks and no one wants to trade down with us.
Running 3-4 hybrid stuff takes a committment to drafting LBs so no issues there. True 3-4 teams draft that way all the time. We are too broken to fix much with one draft. Much to my disdain of Baalke, he worked the board without panic and didn't do the typical super reach on needs picks but I still don't like him. Oh well we will see. I just wish we didn't screw last year up so bad. Turn the page. Edit: Nice video on that kid. Nice Psalm 121 family shirts. Their hope comes from the Lord. Yes Sir and Yes Lord!

Fan perception is a funny thing yes we need a wide receiver but you can’t fill every hole in a single season the value simply didn’t add up to where we were picking, we all think we know best, and if you read through the pages of pre draft talk half this bored would of been over the moon with Ross in the 4/5th round and called it a good draft, in reality not a single team in the league has tried to pick him up at this moment. Just because you think a certain player is better doesn’t mean it’s a bad draft it’s all opinions at this moment.
Looking at the jags in this draft it’s clear they went with what they believed was best player available. Yes I preferred hutch but obviously jags think walker is the better player. No point being mad just wait and see what happens. The draft is a lottery always will be We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today! Lloyd is a rookie but he is a very experienced one and I don't think he will play like a rookie. I think he becomes the leader of our D pretty early and makes the Pro Bowl as a rookie. First player since Josh Allen to do that for us. Our defense hasn't been the same since Poz left and one of the biggest reasons for that imo was the leadership. I think Lloyd brings that day 1 We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Jaguars defense last year was close to the bottom in:
Sacks 1st down allowed rate turnovers amound many other bad stats People have short memories and forget how often teams drove up and down the field on us. I think we allowed a record in opening scoring drives against us. We needed Defense bad. This also hurt Lawrence due to the fact we played from behind consistently. ![]()
There are many ways to look at the draft and break it down. We can speculate about positions they didn't address - whether they like what they have more than we do, or just couldn't do it all in one year. It's all worthy of speculating and discussing.
But, at the end of the day, they landed a pass rusher, two quality LBs, a solid IOL player, and a RB for depth or committee rotation. That's four out of six needs I would have addressed in a perfect world where everything falls like you want it to. Not bad, IMO. Just gotta' wait and see how these players pan out.
I could imagine the run defense leaping from mid-twenties to low teens and the pass defense could go from allowing a 69% completion rate to something in the 63-64% range with a healthy yards per game shrinkage as well. Fingers crossed

I'm seeing a lot of observers (PFF, That Franchise Guy) bash the picks because they are the Jaguars and it's habitual for them to bash the Jaguars. To be clear, there is ample reason to bash the Walker pick as an unnecessary gamble. But pre draft, I didn't see ANYONE dislike Devin Lloyd or Chad Muma. But arguably the strength of the Jaguars draft is being assailed by PFF and TFG. Worst to 1st. Curse Reversed!

This was a Damn Good draft in My Eyes. I was a little surprised by the Walker selection, not because he doesn't have potential to be a terrific player but because I thought Hutchison was more ready for day 1. That said, the complaining about Walker is a little over the top in some comments. I agree it was a pretty good draft, I really liked the selection of Lloyd who could easily have gone much higher and Fortner who I think will be a quality starter on the OL by the end of the season. You can't rebuild it in one draft. They worked on the offense last year but Urbs no doubt interfered. If you look at the projected starters, this defense suddenly looks pretty formidable. Might be another year before they can do that with the offense but I like where this is headed. I have knocked Baalke in the past but I think he did a creditable job this offseason.
I'm condescending. That means I talk down to you.

I got some faith in Pederson/Caldwell for the defense but I was preaching all off season about surrounding Trevor with playmakers. They added Kirk and then just about nothing. Zay Jones is a no body for me. Look at these other teams man. Fins added Tyreek for Tua. Zach Wilson now has Garrett Wilson, Elijah Moore, Michael Carter, Conklin, Breece Hall and others. Eagles added AJ Brown. For me, it’s about being aggressive when you have a young QB on a rookie contract. I don’t think they were aggressive enough on the offensive side of the ball and my guess is that it’ll show this season. The saving grace is Pederson and Trevor. They may be able to hide the lack of speed and talent on offense. |
