An Embarrassment of Riches

Just a note: 8-8 is not setting the league on fire. I think it's time to really begin to accept the fact that Caldwell has put together a team that is not a loser. It's okay to accept success and high expectations when the reality dictates you do so.
Prior years the high expectations were unfounded. This isn't prior years. Yes, the rookies are gonna have a bit of a learning curve, but this is not an all rookie team. The offense has legit weapons that have been together 2 or 3 years. The defense picked up a FS that is a verteran that will help the secondary. The LBers have a consimate professional in Poz and a stud player in Telvin Smith that will help Jack get ready for the NFL. And the D-Line has Marks and Malik Jackson to look up to. In my mind there are no excuses. The wealth of talent we have is a mix of rookies and veterans. It's time to expect things from this team. There are no more excuses anymore, in my mind. Dave Caldwell did his job. Now it's time for the coaching staff to develop and sharpen this talent to be winners.

If the Jaguars were playing in the NFC west of 2013 I could understand tempered expectations, but the team isn't playing against that division, it's playing against the AFC South, one of the weakest divisions to ever disgrace the NFL shield. The time for excuses and losing is over, the Jaguars need to be the "out of nowhere" 12 win team in 2016, if they're not then it should be more than clear where the problem lies, and it isn't the roster or the fans. Relax,we play some really good teams this year.
Quote:12 wins? Relax,we play some really good teams this year. I think 9-7 would be successful in my eyes. 8-8 then I would need to look at the reasons if there are any. But 9-7 is what I think we should shoot for, because this team is so young, no doubt it will be better in 2017 than it is in 2016, and don't forget, we still have the most cap space in the league to use next offseason. Hopefully our acquisitions and new DC will put an end to the embarrassing defense performances of giving up 3rd down after 3rd down until they're so gassed that allowing a TD is almost a relief. Our offense spends entirely too much time on the sidelines.
Quote:12 wins? Relax,we play some really good teams this year. The Jaguars get six games against the AFC South to pad the win column. Time for Simple Gus to start having the team ready to take advantage of that fact. Quote:I think 9-7 would be successful in my eyes. 8-8 then I would need to look at the reasons if there are any. Not sure how next year will unfold but I'm certain we're going to playoffs in the next 3/4 years at the very least. Feels good. Quote:You think we'll sweep the division? I'm all for optimism I just wouldn't be expecting 12 wins next year. Why shouldn't the Jaguars sweep the division? The titans? A bad team led by a bad QB and head coach moving in the wrong direction. The texans? A good defense held down by a bad QB. Osweiler is on the mariota/gabbert level. The colts? They have luck, but the Jaguars already have the much better roster and a QB that had a similar year in 2015 to Luck's best season in the NFL, and put fifty on the colts. Seriously, why do you NOT think 6 wins in the AFC South should be the expectation? The Jaguars have a franchise passer and three pro bowl level pass catchers, they have their best offensive lineman returning from injury early in the season last year, they have multiple pro bowl level veterans on defense and the two most promising defensive rookies of the 2016 draft in addition to other promising players. Twelve wins should be the target, sweep the pitiful division competition and have a winning record against the rest of the schedule.
They're not getting to 12 wins with that schedule next year, but they will definitely be pushing to win the division. The defensive improvements that we should expect with the new additions in free agency and the draft should help that unit tremendously, and the offense was already becoming one of the better ones in the league with the skill positions. As long as they can get the offensive line squared away, this team is going to be a presence in the division. It won't take 12 wins to win it, either.
Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

A division game is hard that's why. Means a little more for everyone involved.we hate them, they hate us. Not as simple as just going off talent. Titans and Colts have good QBS so anything can happen. We got stomped by the Texans who had a worse QB last year. We won't be sweeping.

Outside of the Packers.... Who is really difficult? Chargers were picking top 10. So did the Ravens and Titans. Bears and Bills? I'm not saying 12 wins but that schedule isn't that tough.
Is it a tough schedule?
Yes. Is it now manageable for us? Yes especially if we find a pass rush. There are more winnable games on our schedule now than there were before the draft, IMO. Worst to 1st. Curse Reversed!
The Indianapolis game over in London is going to be the springboard to a good season. Our joint fans there are going to go nuts for the new Jaguars and will generate tremendous enthusiasm and give this young team a huge shot of confidence.
The December 18 game against Houston will decide the AFC South.
Season Ticket holder since 2004.

PF, I think that is true IF the Jaguars get at least a split of the first two games.
Worst to 1st. Curse Reversed!

It's the same thing every year after the draft... The majority of this board gets excited because of the added talent and predict a high level of play and a high number of wins, only to be disappointed after the season begins...YES we have acquired some good players...We start the season with 2 of this years best rated players and one from last year, basically 3 first round picks...BUT very few come out and play at the levels some people here expect... It still takes time and experience to bring it all together...You cant just throw a bunch of good players together and expect greatness from the very first whistle... We will be better, we will be good, we will push for the division title and playoffs, maybe we will make it, maybe not...7 to 9 wins is my prediction
8-8,9-7 with a slow start and fast finish.
It will take some time for all the new defensive pieces to gel and learn the system in the rookies cases. Depending on what happens with the offensive line, they may take a few games to gel as well. |
