Toby Gerhart NOT released

#61

Quote:Then why would you still have faith in him?

This team cannot afford to build a team simply on hope that a player lives up to some youtube highlights from years ago.

Maybe it is a relative

Quote:During your brief period of excitement, Toby almost completed a 40-yard dash.

The team has given him four tries to make it one yard past the stadium door.

Quote:I'd rather see them cut beer prices by $3/each during the 2 preseason games.

Let's assume 20,000 fans (of the 50,000 that attend preseason games) drinks 4 beers each.

That totals up to 80,000 beers sold per preseason game.

Multiply 80,000 x 2 preseason games and you get 160,000 beers sold over 2 preseason games

Multiply 160,000 beers times $3 and you get $480,000

ASSUMING WE DRINK 4 BEERS EACH, IF WE CUT THE HORSE, US BEER DRINKERS COULD SAVE $24 ON DRINKS OVER THE COURSE OF 2 PRESEASON GAMES.  Assuming some of us are married that's $48 per couple.

COUNT ME IN ---- CUT THE HORSE AND SAVE $500,000 --- GIVE ME MY BEER DISCOUNT !!!  THE MORE YOU DRINK, THE MORE YOU SAVE !!!

This is a quality analysis!

Touche. I only think he'll be productive so long as he stays healthy. I see him as a nice compliment to TJ and denard if he can get things going

He either gets cut soon to save us $500K, or he battles it out in camp. I don't know that he has much of a chance to make the roster, but if his lack of production has been due to injury, cutting him would be short-sighted. Given the small amount of money involved (in NFL cap terms), I am happy with whatever they decide.

Injured sporadically over the course of 2 years.

Could not gain 1 yard on 4 carries at the goal line.

If I were a chick, I'd probably be ok with keeping him because I must admit, he's a pretty good looking dude.  However, given my current priorities for this team (listed below), I vote we cut him

Priorities

1) Talented playmakers

2) Discounted beer prices

3) Good looking players.

Traditionally, the Jaguars run onto the field about twelve minutes before kickoff.

Toby shows up mid-second quarter.

Quote:Ok, so I'm not actually seeing this reported anywhere. But why not?

Gerhart is due a $500,000 roster bonus on March 13th, and then he'll carry a $3 mil base salary this season. I know they don't need the cap space, but with a slew of attractive FA RBs out there, they surely can use the roster spot.
Caldwell has stated that Gerhart has an place on our team whether it's ST or actually performing on the offensive field. I believe that they'll allow him to play out his contract...

Rapoport* The #Jaguars are releasing RB Toby Gerhart tomorrow, source said. Makes sense with the Chris Ivory signing

Waiting for the MB GMs to step in and demand we trade him for draft picks.  I'm sure he's worth at least a 3rd, right?

Nobody said we should trade Gertrash, Caldwell would get laughed at if he called another GM and offered to trade him.

Keep fighting the good fight though. I'm sure these message board GMs will eventually come around and be cool and smart like you.

Gotta love the month of March. It has a way of making people forget about 12-36.

This is way to coincidental not to think Caldwell read my Beer Post and is now reacting on my suggestion to maximize the $500,000 savings by cutting Gerhart and discounting the beer price by $3/each during the preseason games.

Thanks for listening Dave !!!

Sarcasm is an elusive thing for you.

I understand why.  Not everyone is a thinker.  Those who can't, usually come up with weak nicknames like Gertrash.
