Dolphins place transition tag on O.Vernon

#61

Quote:Question I'm wondering is if we go big for Vernon, would we still have the room to go after Jackson, Gipson and Osemele considering the future contracts of our own players needing to be resigned.

Hahahaha, dude it's possible the Jags will have like $100M in cap space after cuts, this team has more than enough money.

I know we have tons of money but Jackson and Osemele will demand big money as well with Blake, Arob, Hurns, Telvin, Linder, Colvin are not gonna sign for cheap

Quote:Dolphins unlikely to keep Vernon at $15-16M

Olivier Vernon | MIA

(March 1, 2016 1:54 PM EST)

The Miami Herald believes transition tagged RE Olivier Vernon is "gone" from Miami if he signs an offer sheet worth an annual $15-$16 million.

It makes sense, as the Dolphins would have franchise tagged Vernon at $15.7 million if they were willing to pay that. With teams always in need of pass rushers and the free agent market thin, it's possible, if not probable, Vernon gets an offer the Dolphins can refuse.

Miami already looking at life without Vernon:

Quote:Dolphins like DE William Hayes 'very much'

William Hayes | LAR

(March 1, 2016 1:27 PM EST)

The Miami Herald's Armando Salguero reports the Dolphins like impending free agent DE William Hayes "very much."

With Oliver Vernon able to negotiate with other teams under the terms of the transition tag, the Dolphins would be wise to explore other options in free agency. One of those options could be Hayes, but the Rams will do everything they can to re-sign a player they reportedly see as the replacement for released DE Chris Long. Even if they strike out on Hayes, the Dolphins should be involved with every top defensive end available.

Yea there's simply no way they're going to keep him, they weren't going to assign the exclusive franchise tag because they don't want to pay him $15M, so the transition tag makes sense. The Dolphins know they're going to lose Vernon, so there's no risk in placing the transition tag on him.

this article is saying that  Wake and Dolphins are not on the same page on contract talks.

This gives us even more hope that the Dolphins have no chance to retain Vernon.

The Dolphins essentially could've retained Jared Odrick & Olivier Vernon, both guys are good football players. Instead they wanted to make a "splash" by signing N.Suh, that organization (at least in the past) doesn't seem to think things through, they have no regard or plan for the "long term", it's not a good look for management.

Any chance Odrick helps play in pulling him up north a little?

I think that helps, no one knows how close the two are. What helps more than anything is Olivier's familiarity with the state of FL, which also includes no income taxes!

O'Halloran in response to a tweet said that there is a 100% chance the Jags will make an offer to Vernon.
