What needs to happen for a Super Bowl trophy to come to Jax?

#61

Quote:0 pick sixes by Bortles

Bortles learn to check it down instead of holding the ball and taking a sack or fumbling.

More physicality at the o-line running the ball

#1 running back avg at least 4.3 yards per carry.

Pass rush from the edges.

Replace old white slow linebacker.

#1 shut down corner

Above avg free safety

New Head Coach

I disagree.  Let's say that Blake Bortles has a magic wand and states every time i might throw an interception (35% chance or higher) do not let me throw the ball.  You know what would happen the Jaguars would lose even more games than they did in the last few years.  The Offensive line is very weak, the running back hasn't really be reliable enough to count solely on or even balanced attack vs most average defenses.

If Blake doesn't take chances you don't see the huge passing plays that we enjoyed watching this season.  Does he need to improve absolutely, and he has already doubled down on his production and effectiveness from just one year (rookie season in which he wasnt even supposed to start in).

Everyone wants to blame the QB when a team doesnt go to the Playoffs or further, but its a team sport.  The Defense is horrible, especially at DB.  That has to change #1 (First), the Offense needs to improve its Oline & run game that's #3 because #2 is getting a real pass rush on Defense.  It is a cause and effect, if the Defense can't create turnovers or stop teams from scoring then who cares how good the Offense is you'll probably lose games.

Poor little Pluto.  None of the other planets would let it play in their orbital alignment games.

Typically winning a Super Bowl means you've qualified for the playoffs then win all your post season games.

How do you win one in a non-typical way?

0-0 tie decided by coin toss?

That's probably better for us then hockey rules.  Could you imagine a shoot-out with field goals?  Turning the game over to Myers in the clutch?

What needs to happen to win a championship?

Bortles needs to cut his interceptions in half. I think 9 would be a solid number. Another 35 TDS wouldn't hurt.

Yeldon needs to keep "not fumbling" but I think he needs to get over 1200 yards

AROB just keep doing your thing

Hurns just keep doing your thing

Thomas needs to stay on the field all season. But he really loosened things up in our pass game, so keep doing your thing.

Linder needs to return to form. Cann needs to keep up his solid performance. But we need a good center. The interior of our line could be beast with Linder and Cann and a good center.

Over on defense the LBs need to cover the TE better. Another Telvin would be nice, bc Skuta ain't cutting the mustard.

Then comes our woeful secondary. We need a shut down corner or at least close to it. And we need a FS that can ball hawk. And we are probably stuck with Cyp so he needs to create more havoc.

If all this can happen, who knows....

A great Head Coach can get more out of the talent that he has (in addition to leading the team in the direction of winning).... taking that off of the table for this discussion though...

The team must improve its Defense especially against the Pass.  I mean that is the most obvious thing over the last few years under HC Gus Bradley.  Any team that goes against the Jaguars can literally throw at will even with the worst QBs.

He needs to think long and hard about his scheme if he doesnt have the talent to pull it off & make changes.

The team needs a real pass rush beside Corner blitzes/or LBs especially running a 4-3 the DL has to play better (draft/Free Agency)....  now with the DL coach moving up the DC will the DLine suffer even more?

On Offense its rather simple.  The team needs a better Oline to give Blake Bortles time.  He was hit way too much in the last two years more than almost any other QB in the NFL.  He can't continue to take that abuse despite being a bit mobile (can you imagine if Chad had been in it wouldve been double the sacks)....

The Offense needs to establish a better running game hopefully TJ Yeldon will build upon his rookie year and be even better..

That's a fairly easy question to answer. Time. Time is what needs to happen. I'm thinking at least (2) years...........maybe three depending on injuries and signings.

Simple, someone has to fly to Denver and steal that bad boy. While your out there bring back some of that sweet stinky to take over into that weed thread in the politics section will ya?

Quote:Yeah the pick sixes are a huge problem.

Are they? Are they really? Or are they just somewhat overblown?

Modal average for pick sixes by starting QBs is 2. So Blake had two more pick sixes than the average QB. Worst case scenario, each pick six loses the team a game. It can't be any worse than that, and in reality isn't that bad - one of the games where Blake threw a pick six we won, and one of the others was such a one-sided loss that not throwing the pick six would have made no difference - it was thrown in desperation in the last minutes of a game where we were already down by 23 points. So half the pick sixes thrown don't even alter the result of the game.

So compared to an average QB, Blake's allegedly terrible habit of throwing pick sixes would have lost us approximately one game. Huge problem? Apparently not. Obviously you want to cut down on them. But just how much do they hurt the team? Again, look at the worst case scenario; the drive would have resulted in a touchdown and the opposition's next drive wouldn't. Boom. 14-point differential per pick 6. Blake Bortles just cost us 28 points over the average QB with his pick six tendencies.

But that same median QB threw 23 touchdown passes. Blake threw what, 35? That's 12 more, or 84 points. So we're trading off 28 points through this 'huge problem' against 84 points by being better at scoring. I'll take that trade.

And again, those four pick sixes weren't actually all cases where Blake hurt the team. Two were in the fourth quarter while down by more than 14 points; classic case of too many desperate plays trying to dig the team out of a hole, where playing conservatively wouldn't have resulted in a win. One was on a deep pass, and while it may have been an ill advised pass, it's not entirely on Blake that it went back for a touchdown.

Almost any other QB in the NFL? Only one man was sacked more than 100 times over the last two years, and his name rhymes with Jake Bortles.

Since he likes to talk apparel...

Maybe we, too can have a "battle red" alternate jersey to match our "OLE!" defense.

What needs to happen for us to win a Superbowl you ask? it's simple: beat the Patriots. I'm serious. Of all the teams that we've faced in both the regular season and playoffs we've never beaten the Pats. They will, and always have been, the 900 pound gorilla that we have never gotten off of our back in the postseason (save for 98*).

Ah, thanks for clarifying beastliness

I thought footsies during flip flops vs bridge & tunnel was beastly enough

Or the firm, well-timed push off at the end; preventing further dishing to ally,

More so than to end the civilized hallway treaty, it seems

Disappointing

Especially with the superfluous smiles and decentness portrayed otherwise

Chaff is chaff

Back to ball...will be ecstatic with a even Whitney Mercilus type of beast

Jersey color doesn't matter, we're waving a white flag as long as Bradley is the HC.
