They fired the DC too? Wow, they really have been cleaning house in San Diego!

One note about Dew's post: George Yarno has been on medical leave the last two years for cancer treatment.

The DC wasn't fired.  Frank Reich, the  OC was let go.   The following article will provide you with a list of all 6 Assistants that won't be back for the Chargers in 2016:

Shows you how busy firing season is. Before I know it someone else has been fired. Then I can't remember which coordinator was punted by the Chargers. When will it slow down?

Quote:Yarno wasn't exactly fired; he was diagnosed with cancer. He may still be under contract so the team can continue to provide medical benefits to him.
True the red simply meant no longer with the franchise.

More changes are inevitable.

This is great news. Give the jaguars a nice edge not only in the draft but also with priority udfa's.
Coughlin when asked if winning will be a focus: "What the hell else is there? This is nice and dandy, but winning is what all this is about."

When teams stop firing coaches, I think.

Although the popular view is that coaching the senior bowl is really beneficial to us, unless we have a winning record in 2016 it's going to be for nothing. You can't have extra draft picks every year, and the extra senior bowl knowledge, and all the cap space in the world, and not start winning after 3-4 years.

Quote:I feel like I'm unusually entertained by the Senior Bowl. The coverage of Senior Bowl practice is also really entertaining with our staff. That being said, this has to be our last year doing this.

I agree. I'm not convinced that we get a big advantage from coaching the teams, but it's good exposure for Gus and his team.

They won't be showing us much since the other team is run by the Cowboys. They will be zoned in on them.

I completely agree. If we're here next year, Gus will undoubtedly be gone and Caldwell will likely be on a very hot seat.

Being able to coach and work directly on the field with these prospects during Senior Bowl week is a nice advantage.  I don't like that a bad record led to the coaching invitation, but I'll take any small leg up when this team is involved.

I definitely believe it's a huge advantage under the circumstances of a difficult season.

One major benefit that can be overlooked is it helps the team staff that coaches one of the Senior Bowl squads to eliminate players in the draft process or substantially lower their grades.   If coaching in the Senior Bowl prevents even one draft mistake,  it's well worth it.

One thing for sure, the last 2 drafts in which we coached the game have been much better then Dave Caldwell's first draft, idk if thats the Senior bowl but thats something to think about, its prob a combo of the Senior bowl and Dave having his own staff.

Related to what you mentioned,  the best draft the Lions had in a VERY long time was in 2013,  the recent season the Lions Coaching Staff coached in the Senior Bowl.

Great season overall when you consider the big picture. The team was a lot more exciting to watch, the playoffs were a possibility not just on Thanksgiving but on Christmas Day. Despite this, we get the #5 overall pick AND get to coach the Senior Bowl for the 3rd year. That's huge. Gus & Dave need all the information they can get on this draft class. 2016 is this regime's last time picking in the top 5. They need to get it right.

Coaching the Senior Bowl is like going to Coach Tutoring after class. And you're the only one there beacuse you are extremely slow compared to the rest

Gus sucks, but wouldn't the slow ones be the students and not the teachers?
