I liked the point that Jeff Prosser made a little while ago. I would rather the Jags spend big on like 2 elite players, than bring in 6-7 mediocre guys. That's what happened last year. They need to bring in impact players that will make a difference right away (M. Williams, E. Berry, V. Miller, C. Glenn).

 

Me too, but we all know they won't do that because they have a problem overspending on true difference makers.

 

We have the 2nd most money to spend and we will bring in 6 jobbers whom may or may not be mediocre, because hey... our coaching is top notch. Top notch.

Clearly, we didn't try hard enough. They could have taken the money they used to sign mediocre trash and sweetened the pot with the guys they wanted.

This year, there are A LOT of elite players potentially going in the FA that are direct needs of ours. Like last year, many of these elite players will stay with their current clubs. The ones that can be persuaded to leave need to be thrown the money to entice them to come here. But either way, signing a bunch of mediocre players in the FA doesn't help our team.

While Brown wasn't what we wanted in FS... we intended on Sample manning that spot and he broke his arm.

House was good for the most part.

 

I didn't care for Odrick and who's Skuta?  I don't recall his name ever being called for a positive play in a game.

 

Odrick did have a couple of good plays every now and then but when you watch him play he takes a LOT of plays off and just stands there with no contribution.  He's bottom of the barrel starter level.

I think they said JT ended up averaging 37 yards a game or something like that. There you go again with "glimpses". Glimpses don't win games.

 

And you are correct, free agent signings aren't likely to be home runs when you sign a bunch of middle of the pack guys. Not saying JT is middle of the pack guy, but his injury history was there before we signed. Buyer beware.

Now we just need 2 or 3 really talented guys, that aren't rookies, to come in and man a couple positions, instantly improving those around them.

Now because there will be about 5-8 pass rushers to choose from.

Now because we know we don't really need a lot of the offensive side of the ball, so we can use all of our efforts in finding defensive help, instead of pursuing Cobb or a TE, etc.

People that think like you (us) are rare on this forum. I too believe much of the blame for this team's lack of success comes from a lack of talent and the talent we have, doesn't produce consistently. Blaming the coach is nonsense most of the time. Like you, I could careless if Gus stays or goes. The players need to improve and play up to their potential for once and THEN we can properly evaluate the coach.
