Caldwell talked about Free Agency the other day
|
Quote:I liked the point that Jeff Prosser made a little while ago. I would rather the Jags spend big on like 2 elite players, than bring in 6-7 mediocre guys. That's what happened last year. They need to bring in impact players that will make a difference right away (M. Williams, E. Berry, V. Miller, C. Glenn). Me too, but we all know they won't do that because they have a problem overspending on true difference makers. We have the 2nd most money to spend and we will bring in 6 jobbers whom may or may not be mediocre, because hey... our coaching is top notch. Top notch. Should we have signed Suh?
Quote:They tried to bring in the "elite' guys. Clearly, we didn't try hard enough. They could have taken the money they used to sign mediocre trash and sweetened the pot with the guys they wanted. This team isn't serious about winning. That is clear. Quote:Clearly, we didn't try hard enough. They could have taken the money they used to sign mediocre trash and sweetened the pot with the guys they wanted.Oh lawd..... pure manure. Didn't try hard enough? So we should have paid Cobb like he was an elite WR? How's he doing this year in GB? meeehhhh McCourty? maybe we could have overpaid him.... but then we wouldn't be able to throw the millions upon millions at the FA coming up this season..... Truth be told... YOU (or I, or anyone) have minimal clue as to what they are wanting to do, what they are trying to do, and how they are going about it. But if the end result isn't something you cooked up in one of your whining hand wringing posts.... well.. they aren't trying.
Quote:Oh lawd..... So genius. How did the FA class turnout this year? Outside Odrick and House being slightly above average, the rest were junk, including Julius Thomas. Record don't lie. By the way, when did you turn into FBT? We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Quote:Oh lawd..... Throwing a ton of money in the FA isn't a year to year thing. We need to spend big on our biggest needs. This year, there are A LOT of elite players potentially going in the FA that are direct needs of ours. Like last year, many of these elite players will stay with their current clubs. The ones that can be persuaded to leave need to be thrown the money to entice them to come here. But either way, signing a bunch of mediocre players in the FA doesn't help our team. Quote:So genius. How did the FA class turnout this year? Outside Odrick and House being slightly above average, the rest were junk, including Julius Thomas.Well genius.... I'd say Odrick, House, and Skuts all were good signings. While Brown wasn't what we wanted in FS... we intended on Sample manning that spot and he broke his arm. Not all FA signings are supposed to be home run hits with big money contracts. Julius Thomas was junk? Hardly... we saw glimpses of what could be with him and BB5. Imagine next year when he has the time with his QB like Arob and Hurnsy did. Oh.... you don't like to think about positives... Well you can cherry pick through whatever you like to find a reasoning for your incessant whining. I don't get so emotionally involved with football. I didn't turn into FBT. But if he makes you look foolish too, well, so be it. Quote:Throwing a ton of money in the FA isn't a year to year thing. We need to spend big on our biggest needs. But either way, signing a bunch of mediocre players in the FA doesn't help our team.True.... but you can't force people to play for Jax. And Caldwell can not afford to mortgage the future of this team on 1 or 2 stars that could get paid and not show up in Jax at all. Aaron Ross. Drayton Florence. Jerry Porter. Hugh Douglas. There is a time and place for everything. But I agree... now is the time. Here is the place. Spend to the cap (while being mindful of future contracts for core players). Quote:Well genius.... I'd say Odrick, House, and Skuts all were good signings. House was good for the most part. I didn't care for Odrick and who's Skuta? I don't recall his name ever being called for a positive play in a game. Odrick did have a couple of good plays every now and then but when you watch him play he takes a LOT of plays off and just stands there with no contribution. He's bottom of the barrel starter level. Quote:Well genius.... I'd say Odrick, House, and Skuts all were good signings. I think they said JT ended up averaging 37 yards a game or something like that. There you go again with "glimpses". Glimpses don't win games. And you are correct, free agent signings aren't likely to be home runs when you sign a bunch of middle of the pack guys. Not saying JT is middle of the pack guy, but his injury history was there before we signed. Buyer beware.
Quote:True.... So, NOW is the time because Bradley's head is on the line this year? Why wasn't last year the time? Like I said. They aren't serious about winning. Just improving. Quote:So, NOW is the time because Bradley's head is on the line this year? Why wasn't last year the time? We'll see how it plays out but this feels of Jeans Miff's last year when irrational moves/decisions were made to try and save his job. Quote:So, NOW is the time because Bradley's head is on the line this year? Why wasn't last year the time?Dude.... get off it. I don't care if Bradley stays or goes. Honestly I don't. Now is the time because we truly see where we are as a roster. Like Dave said before we needed a new face in every spot. Now we just need 2 or 3 really talented guys, that aren't rookies, to come in and man a couple positions, instantly improving those around them. Edge rusher, FS for sure. Now is the time because instead of 1 top tier S prospects... there should be 3-4. Now because there will be about 5-8 pass rushers to choose from. Now because we know we don't really need a lot of the offensive side of the ball, so we can use all of our efforts in finding defensive help, instead of pursuing Cobb or a TE, etc. Maybe Gus' message stings with you crybabies. I don't get off on coach speak, one way or the other. I've always said talent trumps coaching.... and while Gus may be on his way out, barring an awesome turnaround year, Dave has done very well improving this roster. Caldwell catching heat over a couple free agents that aren't stars and a weak 2013 draft is nonsense. YOU don't KNOW who he went after last year. Caldwell very well could be (probably) trying to win. Don't let your Gus hate roll over to Dave hate. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today! Quote:We'll see how it plays out but this feels of Jeans Miff's last year when irrational moves/decisions were made to try and save his job.Except Caldwell's job isn't in jeopardy. Not hardly. If Gus is gone. Dave gets a 2nd coach. Bet that.
Quote:Dude.... get off it. People that think like you (us) are rare on this forum. I too believe much of the blame for this team's lack of success comes from a lack of talent and the talent we have, doesn't produce consistently. Blaming the coach is nonsense most of the time. Like you, I could careless if Gus stays or goes. The players need to improve and play up to their potential for once and THEN we can properly evaluate the coach.
Quote:Me too, but we all know they won't do that because they have a problem overspending on true difference makers. I didn't know the coaching staff chose who we do or don't sign in free agency. You sure you're not losing it?

Quote:I was implying our staff can't get the most out of a middle of the pack guy who could go either way.Not every team can have Bill Belicheat as coach. And very few coaches are regarded as well as he is in making something out of poop.
Quote:To lose it you must first, have it. You and the crew are blindly defending something that the numbers don't back up, and I am the one losing my mind? |
