I Can't Defend Bortles Anymore

#61

Quote:How many turnovers did the Jags D get this game?....how many pressures, sacks, passes defended? Got it.

It boggles my mind.  They defend Gus or jump on those that think Gus isn't getting it done as head coach.

Then they jump on the 2nd year QB who is part of the reason why this team has won any games at all DESPITE incompetency at the coaching positions.

We're off to a great start on hitting our quota this week for idiotic threads.

Quote:The D is playing the scheme they are told to. No one asked Bortles to throw to Teo's girlfriend.

Not sure if serious.

So the defensive scheme is to not cover receivers in the endzone? Got it. Clearly the 30+ points SD scored are Blake and the coache's fault and not the defensive players going up against backup WRs and Olinemen. Makes sense.

This isn't some new phenomenon. We lack the rushers, which in turn leads to less pressures, less sacks, less turnovers. There's a reason they drafted Fowler.

Quote:Let's not act like Rivers is some scrub. Take away the pick and we most likely win in spite of Rivers doing what Rivers does well.
He's definitely not a scrub. However I watched a talent depleted Bears defense do well against him. 31 points and zero pass rush to a team missing 2 starting OLineman?

Unacceptable.

Quote:Ah yes.... One bad throw means we lose. Got it.

Blake wasn't great today but the defense was gashed by Rivers and Gates. Guess what? WE ALL KNEW HE WOULD THROW TO HIM.

How in the world can you not defend that?

We know we didn't have the defensive power on deck to stop those 2. Our offense is full of playmakers. What's the excuse there?

So if you know this... Ya know... Maybe do something different? Great coaches scheme to their players.

Quote:Or it falls on a defense that allowed Rivers to scamper for 8 yards on a 4th & 7.
On a drive everybody knew a touchdown would be a backbreaker.

This team has won because of fluke plays or defensive heroics. Yeah I said it.

Miami: a personal foul helped us into field goal range. The offense did nothing the second half and it's actually the defense for once who bails us out

Buffalo: two defensive TDs. We let Manuel nearly pull off a miracle

Ravens: a fluke face mask and missed call

Titans: bailed out by Rashads punt return and defensive turnover

Offense didn't play well. But to think that one interception by Blake is the reason is not right.

We had 1 sack and zero turnovers against a banged up offense.

They've been scheming pressure all season. It's the reason we've managed to scrum up the few sacks we have. But scheming only gets you so far. Eventually you need your players to go out and make plays.

I bet many other teams win on these plays that you call "flukey"...

Quote:Or the defense for giving up 300 and 4 TDs with zero pass rush to a team riddled with injuries?

That TD given up right before half can't be blamed on the defense IMO. Chargers got the ball ridiculously close to the end zone already. That happens quite frequently by the Jags in many games,, but the poonts get blamed on defense? No way,, not from me.

The defense needs to be better,, undoubtedly. But many TDS given up this year have nothing to do with them. How about the TD again the Ravens when Bortles threw an INT and the defense had to defend starting in the redzone? Yup,,, those points are on the D also.....

You do realize in certain coverages there are going to be open spaces right? If the TD given up by Gratz was meant to be primarily played inside towards the seam, if the WR goes to the out he has the advantage. Should he have gone with the outside, the no-name WR, or their TE's on the inside?

I was responding to a post that Bortles was the reason we won those games...

They blitzed too. I remember specifically on Gates first TD. Live by the blitz and die by it too.

No comments on the close losses, where the offense has lit it up only to have the defense give it back? Works both ways, but carry on with your agenda.

And it happens every single week, the #1 guy on offense on the opposing team just kills the Jags over and over and over again.

Why not at least take the #1 option away?

I survived the Gus Bradley Error.
