I thought defense is Gus specialty

 

This is why I think GB is gone after this L.  No scheme changes to stop Hopkins, ESPECIALLY in the REDZONE, and on 3rd downs.  He is supposed to be able to at least think of something during the game.  It's not all on House, he's decent quality and even the announcers pointed out his coverage on Hopkins all game.

Hopkins has made everyone look like a bum this year.  The 3rd and 12 he got beat on House was in coverage for a solid 6 seconds.  We need Fowler back..

I am a House supporter. Been liking him since he was in Green Bay.But I can't say he had a very good day chasing an elite wide receiver. DeAndre Hopkins has everything you want in a WR: height, strength, flexibility, quickness, speed, and agility. And of course he has the football IQ and intangibles to go with those physical traits. When you put all of that together, what you will see is a player who can make even the best defensive back look confused, slow, and lazy  I saw #31, Devon House, getting all over #10 DeAndre Hopkins and just barely missing the ball. Sometimes he just had no chance because the pass by Brian Hoyer was perfect and Hopkins jumped for it. House should be fine next week.

Against the colts both hurns and robinson had ro make plays against the double team. Ud think wed give the kid some help?


More importantly, malcom butler is emerging ad the top guy in ne. Against antonio brown he was in great coverage the guy just made all world plays. That happens. Thats why 14 points isnt enough in this league.

I rate House as the Jags 3rd best CB behind McCray and Colvin. He wasn't a bad signing. The Jags paid too much, but had to use up cap space in any case, and quality depth at CB is always a good idea. It's all on Gus that he's starting over McCray. I'm not sure why McCray isn't a starter, maybe he made the mistake of asking for Rocky Road?


 

In any case, House was not to blame for what happened yesterday. Hopkins had a career day, making lots of difficult catches. A big part of the problem was that Hoyer had plenty of time to set his feet and make a perfect throw. Hopkins also got away with a lot of push-offs. No CB, not even Revis, would have been able to defend Hopkins yesterday.

I'm no expert at all but it looked to me like House was all over Hopkins most of the day and played pretty well considering. Few, if any, of Hopkins' catches were what we'd call easy...which isn't something we could say about opposing WRs skipping backwards wide open through secondaries past. I dunno about the push offs though, they both got away with a couple. There seemed to be a lot of contact in general between those two and the refs for the most part, let them play and I'm OK with that.

 

Hopkins is REALLY good. I'm honestly surprised he doesn't get talked about more than he does...but that's going to change very, very soon.

Hopkins is the real deal. Everyone knew he was going to be a huge part of their game plan. Unfortunately, we were very soft against the run and that allowed them to dial up plays to exploit our secondary. Not gonna jump all over House for his play. Hopkins makes all sorts of CBs look bad.

He's not the starter because House is the better DB. I don't get the fascination with Mccray. If he was the best option, wouldn't he be out there?

I think the question is in Bradley's ability to evaluate player talent. Gratz has shown nothing as the nickel corner, yet the guy who looked like a budding star last season remains mired in the dime and on special teams.

I know DC has control over the personnel however Gus must be saying they're not required otherwise the GM surely would not let them go, it's not like we require cap.

This is ridiculous.

 

Caldwell is the one who engineered the rebuild. These are the guys he cut to make room for his players. The roster moves are Caldwell's cross to bear and his alone.

 

If Caldwell needs to rely on Gus to make his roster decisions then he is more incompetent than Gus.

House is probably a top 30 corner but unfortunately Hopkins is a top 5 WR.

 

 

It's more likie House is top 20 and Hopkins is top 10. The thing is, there are only a few CBs in this league capable of manning up and severely limiting a top 10 WR. House never should have been put in that position, and that's a coaching failure.
