I agree.  In hindsight, it was a mistake.  I'd think O'Brien would've done a better job evaluating him seeing he had the in.  Mallett's awful.  I promise you O'Brien expected more when the trade was made.

Hey!! How about we start a thread on hypothetical situations ??

IF O'Brien gets fired

IF Gus gets put on the bus

Man, isnt this off season banter?

What IF the team started injury free and were in 1st?

Lets talk when not if...but  anyway..carry on...as IF I care

If your point was "it was mistake" who cares? You're acting as if they traded the farm to acquire Mallet, I'd be interested to see the percentage of 7th round picks that are still in the league.

That's all i've been saying the whole time dude, sorry you got so spun up over it. Show me where i'm acting like they traded the farm.  It's just a simple opinion that i think in hindsight, they'd not do the trade.  Made a mistake.  That's it. Nothing more.

I don't think O'Brien is a step up from Gus, that's my bottom line opinion WRT this thread.

Fair enough, I just don't think it's a big deal, it's a lottery ticket. If you win great but if not you didn't lose a large investment.

This we agree on, I just don't think it's the sort of glaring mistake worth dwelling on at any length. The seventh-rounder taken with that pick would have been cut anyway, languished on the practice squad for a few weeks, then never been seen in Houston again.

We mostly agree here. I think that a dead squirrel would be a step up from Gus at this point, but O'Brien is, imo, not the right choice to lead this franchise after the disaster that is Gus Bradley.

After watching Hard Knocks(I know its just a tv show...) and seeing a few games this season, No I would not want to sign him. I dont know him all that well. However I see nothing I want a part of.

He's done a great job in Houston.

Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Did you see anything on Hard Knocks that makes you want to say "I gotta have him"?

I wouldn't take him under any circumstances.

His personality comes from as extremely contrived to me.

I'm pretty sure if Caldwell does fire Bradley, BoB would not make the short list...

His team has regressed under him, and he doesn't appear to know how to make an nfl offense work unless he has Tom Brady as the qb.

So basically, he's every NE assistant since Weis and Crennel (forgot who got a head job first)?
