Stephen Morris and Jeremiah George claimed on waivers

Quote:^^^I'll nominate this as the best comment about Henne to date. What other reason could they have for keeping him around? He's Gabbert without the high draft pick baggage. The only reason he's still here that makes any sense is because they want to make Bortles as comfortable as possible, which at this point might be important enough of a reason to pay a guy that can't really play the position millions of dollars as a backup at that position. At least that's the only line of reasoning I can think of that makes sense. Either that or Caldwell is a moron, but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. In Henne's defense he did win 4 games as a starter in 2013 with a much worse roster. I wouldn't call him Gabbert, he doesn't curl up in a fetal position when there's a pass rush. More like a Grossman. He can have good stretches followed by some really bad ones. "Why should I give information to you when all you want to do is find something wrong with it?"

The Jaguars won a game against the colts and Luck a few years ago starting Gabbert, obviously it wasn't about Gabbert in that game just like those 4 wins with Henne in the game weren't about Henne.
I hate Henne. But he is better than Morris. And given the fact that the Jaguars 3rd string QB is better than Tebow, can we please end the discussion of him continuing his NFL career at that position? I'm curious to see what we do to replace Morris.
Only a chump boos the home team!
Quote:Wait a sec. Don't try to back up on your post. You said that you would have rather seen the Jaguars release Henne and retain Morris. Do you honestly think that would be the smartest move? I don't really think it would make a whole hell of a lot of difference. ![]() We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Quote:I don't really think it would make a whole hell of a lot of difference. I think it would. Do you want your backup quarterback to be a development project? If so, then Morris is your guy. Do you want your backup quarterback to give you the best chance of winning a game? If so then Henne is your guy over Morris. There are 10 kinds of people in this world. Those who understand binary and those who don't. Quote:Matt Flynn is an upgrade. Not sure how you figure that. He's played for 6 different teams and counting since leaving Green Bay. I wouldn't consider a guy who can't stick on a roster a upgrade.

My point is that Henne should be at least as successful now that the Jags have a better team overall. I wouldn't expect the backup QB to win at a higher percentage than the starter, and most predictions here with Bortles at QB have been somewhere around 7-9. I guess if you consider 3% chance better than 1% chance, I'll agree. ![]() We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!

Game 6 this season for some reason Blake Bortles goes down or is out of the game. Which quarterback gives us the better chance of winning? A quarterback that has actual game experience, or a quarterback that has lived on the PS and has no real game experience? There are 10 kinds of people in this world. In the grand scheme of things, it's going to make zero difference. They're both bad. Henne may be infinitesimally less bad. ![]() Quote:Wonder who the Jags are liking at PS QB? With PS now full, they have chosen not to carry one. Makes sense. Henne is a capable veteran and is on board. They must not feel Morris had a future. If there's a need for a third, you can acquire one in emergency. Whether your developmental guy or just a guy to plug in, winning isn't an expectation if it comes to your third.

Henne's value as back up QB is all the off the field stuff he can help Bortles with. That's the only thing that makes sense to me. Dave and the coaches see the same thing we do when Henne is on the field, but we don't see what goes on off the field with Henne helping Bortles in the film room, meeting rooms and all the other stuff Qbs go through when preparing for a game. You have to remember, Bortles was young, came from a pretty small school, (especially by NFL standards) wasn't heavily recruited and only moved up the draft boards because of his spectacular last season at UCF which ended with winning a bowl game. The year before his last great year at UCF, I hadn't even heard of him and I suspect not many others in here had either, (unless they were affiliated with UCF) and I live in Florida. Most, if not all, young QBs will need some type of mentoring from a veteran while learning the QB position in the NFL. Henne, while very limited on the field, must be very knowledgeable off the field, and I believe that's the main reason they are keeping him as back up. If Henne wasn't very helpful to Blake and it was like the Farve/Rodgers situation where Farve wouldn't help Rodgers at all as a young QB, I am convinced Henne would be gone and another veteran would be Blake's back up QB. That's just the way I see it.
