NFL cuts around the league

Isn't he Cris Carter's son?

Colts waive former CFL star WR Duron Carter

Duron Carter | FA

Colts waived WR Duron Carter.

Carter was a hot free agent name out of the CFL in February, but he could not crack the Colts' deep receiver depth chart, struggling throughout the preseason. Indianapolis would ideally like to stash Carter on the practice squad, but it is not a given he makes it through waivers.

Maybe he can carve a career as someone's fall guy.

Quote:Davon Still cut by Bengals.

Matt Flynn cut by Jets

James Jones cut by Giants

If for no other reason,  I hope Devon Still gets claimed or signed by another team in order to help him financially with his daughter's illness.

A few quick notes:

*Saints cut DB Stanley Jean-Baptiste. I liked him a lot in last year's draft as a big, physical Brandon Browner type who could play CB or FS.

* Rams cut QB Austin Davis. Not good enough to replace Henne on the roster today (sorry, 02), but does he have practice squad eligibility? With his playing style, he'd make a solid pure backup to Bortles in 2016.

*Christian Ponder is NOT a better backup option than Chad Henne. Just cutting that one off at the pass.

*Carl Bradford (released by GB) has some intriguing potential, but probably couldn't unseat anyone on the 53-man.

*Tim Tebow was released. This man is a star in the making, he just hasn't been given any chances to show what he can do in the NFL. Sign him, bring him in, and he'll immediately replace Henne as #2. He'll probably take over for Bortles by week eight, and lead the team on a deep playoff run this year and a Super Bowl next season when he has a better offensive line!

Logan Thomas cut. Maybe he'll be willing to try a different position now? He's made to play TE.

Pretty interesting that they were willing to give up on Jean-Baptiste this early. 2014 2nd round pick.

Case of a guy being overdrafted.

Some had a 5th round grade on him, but was taken in the 2nd.

Might benefit from a move to safety.

You don't waste that arm on a TE.  QB or bust, which seems to be the case.

I agree that he was overdrafted.   But it wouldn't surprise me that a team like the Jaguars that prefers size at CB would at least give in a Practice Squad opportunity at CB,  if he clears waivers.

Well he's failed miserably as a QB. Jamarcus Russell could throw the ball 70+ yards on his knees. The arm doesn't do you much good if you don't have what it takes between your shoulders. He's still a plus athlete that would have enormous upside as a TE.

I actually thought he'd be a better fit at free safety anyway, and had the ability to be the center fielder in the Jags' defense. He seems almost certain to be taken on waivers, and I hope it's by us.

Quote:Rams waive OT Battle after 58 days on roster

Isaiah Battle | FA

(September 5, 2015 7:42 PM EDT)

Rams waived OT Isaiah Battle.

The Rams saw fit to use a fifth-round pick on Battle on July's Supplemental Draft, but have cut the cord after only 58 days on the roster. It's a completely inexcusable waste of resources from a team that lacks depth at almost every position. Coach Jeff Fisher/GM Les Snead have routinely proven to have no idea how to best manage an NFL roster in the 21st century. The Rams will undoubtedly try to stash Battle on the practice squad, but he might not make it through waivers.

Yes.

Regardless of whether Isaiah Battle clears waivers or not,  another team can offer him a contract anytime he's not on the Rams 53 man roster.

It's yet another example of why the Rams haven't had a winning season since the 2003 season.   Yet,  their fan base in St. Louis is getting blamed for not supporting the team,  while Stan Kroenke is doing everything possible to alienate the St. Louis fans while he attempts to move the team to the Los Angeles area.     This has to be the closest thing in the NFL we have seen to the movie,  ' Major League' ,  in a long time.
