Colvin is our best CB just like ARob is our best WR. Yes, sometimes stats are misleading but you can just watch Colvin and see he's our best.

I would tend to agree with this... I think the competition isn't so much Colvin vs. McCray, but McCray vs. House to see who starts opposite him. Either way all of them will see a lot of snaps. Gratz will probably see a fair few as well.

I like McCray too, but c'mon.


The comparison isn't as offensive as Derek Cox to Revis, but still...

I wasn't comparing him to revis I was just saying if McCray was to become one of the top corners in the nfl, it would be in a revis mold as opposed to say a Sherman mold. I was also making a point about cb affect stats etc.

What's all the hype about him to the point where people in general want him to take Demetrius Mccray's starting corner's spot? I thought Mccray played well last year and shut down every receiver that was in front of him including Antonio Brown, Dez Bryant and Odell Beckham Jr. Maybe i'm just out of touch but i just don't see why Mccray deserve to lose his job. 

 

I think most of the Jaguar fans have way over rated this team's DBs.  There is a reason the GM was looking to free agency and the draft to address it.   In my opinion he didn't do enough as the DBs are up there with the DEs as the weakest positions on the team.

 

Aaron Colvin impressed me at times and McCray is improving but neither are spectuclar enough to draw attention from (Non-Jaguar fans), but hopefully that all changes after this preseason.

It's a great thing.  Colvin and House being the starters tells me that our DBs are playing really well because McCray is a solid player.

The DBs have been pretty good in camp and getting better. It's a shame Gratz can't get on the field. There will be some decent guys cut this year.


On another tpoic, i've noticed the better DB play is slowly exposing a weakness at LB. I'll be watching the LBs hard in Preseason.

I agree both are good.

 

But I think part of it is the low draft pick/underdog dynamic.

 

As a rule, I think if two players are performing comparably, I think fans  tend to gravitate towards the lower drafted player.

The last few years have shown that this scheme with the players have allowed quite a few BIG plays to happen.  Until that gets cleaned up, the individual performances won't matter as much as the unit's.  Although I like Colvin and McCray as players, I think the team's DBs are overrated too.

So somehow, somewhere way off in bitterland, it's apparently a bad thing that (*gasp* oh, the horror...) Colvin is a better corner than McCray, and he's earned the starting job.

LB, and LB depth in particular have been lacking for a while.  Not sure there was any opportunity in the draft to change that, either.

without reading the thread, i think that people assume house gets a starting spot because he was signed for decent money, but if mccray and colvin are the 2 best then you start the 2 best. 

 

either way its a good problem to have.

Did PFF overrate McCray aswel because he was the 4th best cb in the league for yards allowed per snap behind only Sherman, Norman and Chris Harris for Cbs with more than 300 snaps.


But yeah I guess we're all overrating him.

PFF did overrate McCray.  As another poster said, why go McCray's way if the middle of the defense and other corners are easy pickings.  McCray's ranking was biased, but still supports the eye test that he is a good player.  Just not great yet.
