Tom Brady GOAT

#81
(This post was last modified: 02-06-2017, 03:37 PM by JagFan4Life78.)

Quote:Marino had Don Shula, one of the greatest HC ever, and they couldn't get past the Bills, alot of championship games and their SB appearance.

Elway had Dan Reeves who took 2 different teams to the Superbowl, and lost 3 in 4 years.

Manning played in how many championship games and Superbowls?

The Clutch factor is what elevates Brady. That guy is probably the most clutch QB of all time, at least the most clutch I have ever seen.

BB wasn't on the field last night when the Pats offense HAD to score 2 TDs and 2 point conversions just to tie the game late.

Brady is so clutch.

Dan Reeves didn't he never win a SB lol? With a .535 total record? I wouldn't even use him in the same sentence and BB..

Manning was his own coach because everyone that INDY brought in was garbage.

What does BB no being on the field have to do with anything? He was the one who created the game plan and then changed the game plan when it wasn't working?

I am not saying Brady isn't clutch but do you really think Peyton or Elway or any other QB (that is considered a top QB) isn't clutch? They all had there fair share of game winning drives.

All I am saying, is that BB made a great QB into the greatest QB/player of all time.

BB has shown time and time again that his game planning is 2nd to non which just proves that Brady is just always put in the position to win. That is NOT taking away from the fact that when he does need to make a play he always makes the play.

I am not arguing that Brady is not the GOAT because he is but what I am saying is that he would not be the GOAT if he did not have the GOAT of coaching behind him as well.

Quote:"Everyone else" is on different levels. Tom Brady tops a list of elite QBs, but the rest can't be compared to players who are just above average quality starters.

I know everyone likes to talk about who would be most trustworthy if your team is trailing in the fourth quarter. Well, Tom Brady showed no order is too tall for him, but the Patriots are rarely in that situation.

The Patriots do have a history of comebacks in the Tom Brady era.  Though yesterday's comeback was improbable,  considering the score, stage, and what was transpiring in the game,  no franchise/ QB combination is more capable of that type of comeback than the Tom Brady led New England Patriots.   We witnessed something that will be talked about as long as the NFL exists.

Quote:That's the greatest game I have ever watched. The probabilities in that game stacked against them in the first half to win it in the second half were astronomically out of their favor. First time a team has even come back to win a game after being down by 19 points in the first half out of 93 games. Before last night. Teams were 93 - 0. First time a Superbowl game went into overtime. That was the most impressive statistic walking away from that game. I don't think we'll ever see anything like this again in our lifetimes. What Brady and Belicheck did last night is one for the ages. Without any doubt in my mind. Those two are the greatest to ever do it at their jobs in this profession.

 Very well stated!

As an NFL fan,  I'm still feeling naturally high from yesterday's epic Super Bowl.

Quote:Brady is the GOAT, but man Edelman (sp) could have made a case for MVP of that game. What a catch!

David Tyree came to mind,  especially since it was in the middle of the field that moved field opposition into opposing territory.   Tremendous concentration!

Quote:No doubt he's the greatest after last night.

We were discussing as they rolled into the locker room about how well NE makes halftime adjustments.

They have been doing this so well, for so long.

One of the things overlooked about Brady is what he's done re: restructuring to help keep it all together over the years.

Tom Brady is truly a remarkable TEAM player.

Very much true.  I put Tom Brady up there with the Sammy Baugh's, Bart Starr's, etc.  I'm reluctant to call him the "Greatest Of All Time" since he has played in a totally different era compared to others, but in this era, yes he is the greatest and will go down in history as such.

Absolutely!  That was one of the best Super Bowls ever.

Quote:Falcons defense played 92 snaps. They had nothing left.

That was a huge part of the Super Bowl story.

Ultimately, what destroyed the Falcons yesterday was the 3rd and 1 forced fumble by D. Hightower on a blitz/ dog and the sack that Matt Ryan took on the next series of downs following Julio Jones' tremendous sideline catch.

Quote:Yeah,,,,

That Julian Edelman catch was totally part of the scripted plan.

Cmon now.
Talk about having the presence of mind to know to keep that ball from touching the ground. Everything happens so fast and for him to catch and keep that ball. Insane.

Quote:This being the Super Bowl, there is no comparison.  It was the largest Super Bowl comeback in history.  There is no game comparable to the Super Bowl.

The closest thing to this Super Bowl comeback  I can think of in sports would have been if the Indians were able to complete a Game 7 comeback in the 2016 World Series when it looked like most of the game that the Cubs were going to win comfortably.

As an NFL and MLB fan,  I never saw two combined more exciting games than yesterday's Super Bowl and Game 7 of the 2016 W.S.

Quote:The Patriots have been in that situation in almost every Superbowl they have played in with Brady at the helm (even the ones they lost).

From my perspective, those 7 Super Bowls are easily in the top 15 best Super Bowls in NFL history.

I was thinking the same.  Two incredible, historical, championships within months of each other.

Quote:Oh, yes, absolutely.   The right thing to do in that situation (admittedly in hindsight) would have been to kneel down twice, force the Pats to use 2 timeouts, and kick the relatively short FG for an insurmountable lead.   That would have been game over.

But you have to admit, the Atlanta defense was gassed at the end of the game, and even though Atlanta was way ahead by halftime, the Atlanta defense had been on the field for the great majority of the first half.  That's why I thought at the time, if the Pats ever get rolling, they could be hard to stop.

Yesterday's game had many similarities to the 1998 NFC Championship game in which the Falcons came back to beat the Vikings in OT.   This time,  the Falcons were on the other end.   The respective games remaining 7 point deficits instead of 10 point deficits likely were the difference in the outcomes.

Quote:Shanahan?   I would think that kind of strategic decision would be up to the head coach.

At that point of the game,  it the strategy should be up to the Head Coach.   Whether it was in actuality is potentially another question.

Though I never saw Sammy Baugh play in a full game,  from what I have read over the years,  I consider him at the very least the best all around NFL player of all time.  Yet, in terms of just the QB position,  considering that Tom Brady has won 5 Super Bowls, been to 7,  and 11 Conference Championship games in 16 seasons,  with many changes on the Patriots rosters,  I truly believe that he's finally in a class of his own.   That much more when factoring in free agency and the salary cap.   The NFL of this era wasn't designed for a team and QB to dominate to this extent.

Great point in terms of the time/ speed factor.

This Super Bowl provided millions of people with life long memories.

It's hard to imagine this being topped in the future.

Probably why Goodell hates Tom and the Pats so much.

What a game and what a performance by Brady. It'll be bittersweet when he finally retires. The rest of the AFC will finally have a chance, but we'll likely never see greatness such as his ever again.
