Again whats the point?  The reason to force him out is because of backlash?  But what backlash would there be?  None.  No one will stop watching football because of this.

If the owners were to move on dumping Goodell, it's because the league buckled to the pressure of organizations like NOW.  But, they wouldn't do so unless there was some evidence that the commissioner lied to them in some fashion about this incident.  I don't see the reason behind why he would do any such thing, but I suppose anything is possible. 

 

As far as backlash is concerned, if you get enough special interest groups out there howling at the top of their lungs, boycotting sponsors, or making life generally uncomfortable for the owners, I have no doubt it would sway their opinion.

What's lost in all of this is the fact that she was just as abusive toward him, hitting him several times and spitting on him.  It doesn't justify what happened, but it's easy to see why he snapped.  None of this falls on the shoulders of the commissioner, but this is what happens in incidents such as this.  Rather than focusing on the problem, the special interests are looking for a villain to latch on to and they're demanding Goodell's head because he didn't crucify the player for his actions.  Politically correct special interests have a certain blood lust on occasions like this.

There are millions of reports out there.  The Ravens owner said he was told that she hit him, he slapped her, and she hit her on the rail and got knocked out.  If that were the case, 2 games may still be light, but its much more justifiable.

Personally I think Goodell is lying when he says that he didn't see the tape or at the very least knew the NFL had the tape in their possession. Goodell isn't just giving lip service about "protecting the shield" as this was exactly what he was trying to do, albeit in an underhanded way. I think he has been a part of the cover up from the very beginning. Now his worst fears are coming true since TMZ released the tape on Monday. There's no doubt in my mind that he is very aware of the bad behavior associated with many NFL players. I mean think about it; the NFL has nearly 1700 players in their league, many of which are millionaires and under the age of 30, don't you think this is a recipe for bad behavior? Goodell doesn't want his sponsors or his playing customers to know the extent of how bad it really is. He wants the public to think he's tough on wrongdoers but the reality is he's more concerned about things that effect the NFL financially. Goodell needs to go. Way too many scandals on his watch and at this point he's doing everything but "protecting the shield".

Whether she was quantifiably more or less abusive is irrelevant. The fact of the matter is a grown man should NEVER hit a woman, especially a man who routinely runs through 300 lb lineman in the NFL.  What threat is she to Rice? All he had to do is just keep his cool and at best hold her until he could get away from the situation.

You can't simply dismiss the fact that the abuse was a 2 way street.  A grown woman should NEVER hit a man either, but it happened, didn't it?

Unless she had some sort of a weapon she is no more of a threat than a 4 year old is to an adult. Abuse is abuse, there is no denying that much however what we saw on tape was an excessive show of force and power. His wife could not have countered with an equal opposing force unless she had an outside means to do so. The fact he stone cold punched her just shows how much of a coward Rice is. Villian? Yes, he is a villian in this. He is a model for how men should not act in a heated, physical confrontation with an unarmed woman.

Seriously, though.  It's amazing how people are treating the NFL like it's a branch of government, and like Goddell holds a position in political office.  It's OK that he wasn't even charged with a crime, but allowing him to ever step foot on a football field ever again is unacceptable.

Exactly.  I don't condone what he did at all.  Not one tiny bit.  But the NFL is protected by the Collective Bargaining Agreement.  They are breaching the document.  Why are we voluntarily giving up our rights for group think and the mob mentality.  The rope is the only thing missing.

Yep. Obvious agenda is obvious. Poor Roger up against those mean old "special interest groups," and we know who you mean. No, the real reason he might get fired is if the owners or sponsors feel he is damaging the integrity of the league, plain and simple. No politics needed.

I don't think it is easy to see why he snapped.  Hitting him?  Spitting on him yes, but it is not easy to see why he snapped.  There should be no excuse whatsoever or any reason to defend what he did.
