Yeah he's probably the only one out of that group that would have been better. Everyone else? Meh

Quote:Because he's employed by the man the actually owns the team?????????  That "owner guy" can do whatever the hell he wants. Maybe try grasping that?
Your at step D. Im at step C. I get that Shad Khan is the final say because its his team. My point is, Shad even said this, he doesn't want to be the football operations guy. Shad hired Dave to do a job. He did it, Shad has obviously stepped in this season and probably wanted Gus gone after we lost what, 9 games in a row.

I debated YoBoy on this earlier, its a chain of command. Obviously Shad is the final say, but as far as football operations go, Dave was the guy, obviously who's Daves, boss? Shad. Enter step D, where Khan comes in and wants Gus gone.

If C wants him gone and D says no, then you finally understand what happened IMO.

but theres were this argument starts. I dont see the evidence that step C wanted Gus gone. As in, lets fire Gus last year like he should have been.

--- and then Caldwell strongly implied the decisions were not his alone.  Which is not atypical or even strange. Owners and GMs collaborate on an array of differing levels in such decisions.

You are simply trying to force this "Shad is hands off" narrative into some ridiculous absolute when it is far from it.

Guys, this line of thinking just doesn't make sense. Shad Khan, the guy who employs Dave Caldwell, OBVIOUSLY has zero say in anything. He's just a figure head that makes money and could care less about what is happening.

His talks with Coughlin without Caldwell last week were just them going to coffee shop and discussing the city of Jacksonville. No idea why people talk like it was an interview for the HC gig or work in the organization...because Caldwell wasn't there, who does ALL of the "football operations", right....right!?!?!?

We only have his word, which you don't take when Caldwell says he wasn't his guy or when Khan clearly says he was.

That decision to fire Gus Bradley was absolutely Shad, Dave and maybe others involved. Thats not in debate. I believe Khan stepped in this season to make that call. I will agree with you on that, absolutely.

So you think Caldwell wasn't going to fire him then?

I believe he would have been fired sooner by Dave if not for Khan's initial insistence he coach the entire season regardless of record.

That ^  however, is strictly my opinion.

I respect your opinion, however, thats not fact.

We dont know for sure, but from what I heard, Prisco said it was a bit delusional in that building. They think they are better than what they are. Gus was unanimously loved within the organization. I dont see it being a forced hire of Gus on Dave. It simply was a lousy hire by Caldwell and it didnt work out. Hes 90 percent getting another chance.

So in the end, you will get another year with the Dave Caldwell regime, who will draft the players, sign the players and hire the coach.

Time for a glass of wine.

Here's hoping Caldwell and Khan do better with the coaching hire this time around.

We all want whats best for the organization.

Believe it or not, I was a big proponent of Dave Caldwell when he was hired. I just want perspective which is why i created this thread. I believe after a 3-13 season and a 15-48 record after 4 seasons, I believe scrutiny is absolutely warranted for Dave. Personally, If I was an owner, it would be a tough sell for me to keep the said GM, but the Jaguars are a bit different in their approach when it comes to personnel decisions. We are a bit more lenient when it comes to firings. Be glad your not the 49ners because their owner puts up with absolutely ZERO incompetence.

Dave will have a short leash. This hire might be the most important offseason addition we have had since our beginning. Its been too long since we have been competitive.

Looks like Caldwell still has the backing of the majority of fans on here.

He's got the backing of the one person whose opinion actually matters in this instance.
