Early Roster Cuts: Rackley, Ebert gone

#81

I think we could probably get a 2nd or 3rd rounder for Shorts, which would really be incredible value for a guy who began his career as a 4th. Then you don't have to give 2nd contract money to a guy who will want to be paid like a #1 but is better suited to play 2/3.

I think you're putting WAY too much value on what we'd get for Shorts.  5th or 6th?  Maybe.  Not much more.

Trent Richardson netted a 1st and Shorts is pretty much a 1000 WR. I think some desperate team would definitely be willing to give up an early pick for him, especially when you consider how many teams could really use a guy like Shorts.

I'd say there's a better chance at getting a 3rd for Shorts than there is of getting anything at all for Henne.

It's going to be an interesting season from a personnel standpoint.

Stevie Johnson fetched a 4th. I think a 4th round pick would be about right in terms of compensation.

It sort of depends on how much desperation there is going on.

The Jaguars should have offered him up to the Pats early last season while they had no one at the position.

If there's a competitive team like the colts were last year with Richardson there's opportunity to take advantage of.

We'll see.  If Henne thrives in year 2 of this system and puts up decent numbers, there will be value there.  Still, we're talking about at best a late 2nd or early 3rd day pick.

I think that's about the best case scenario you'd get for Shorts.

Just what I was thinking. Call the Browns, Redskins, Raiders etc. Surely one of them will offer a 3rd at least.

The Bills might bite as well if you're willing to wait a couple of years for your compensation.

I could see Cecil playing well in the first half of the season and being traded a la Monroe.

I think a little more than that.

If Cecil puts up good numbers, 600 plus yards 7 games in, then I think we could get a 3rd for him.  Mike Thomas went for a 4th and never was as good as Cecil is.

Quote:WHat they also could do - tying in with something you or someone else said earlier...

They could initially keep Shorts as one of the 5, placing Copeland on the PS, and then around the deadline move Shorts and call up Copeland, to take the spot - this if Copeland looks promising in camp/ exhibition.

I'd imagine Mike Brown would not be eligible for the PS anymore.

I think you're getting way ahead of yourself with Cobb and Copeland. I'd be surprised if either sniff a roster spot.

Thomas went for a five, which I would say would be a realistic expectation for Shorts in trade.

IMO, he's worth more to us than as a draft pick. If he has a great year, he'll either stay here on a new deal or bring home a compensatory pick if someone else signs him. If he tanks, he tanks, but he's already proven himself capable. I think we've passed the "fire sale" stage and moved into the "building around" phase of things.

We got a 5th for Mike Thomas.

Did you watch the video of Cobb yet?

No, SHorts is more valuable than Thomas. Thomas, when we got that 5th for him was a nothing with Jax.

I'd say 4th rounder for Shorts, minimum.

Yes and I don't realistically see a spot for him with Gerhart, Todman, Johnson, Robinson. Practice squad at best.

I could see him possibly beating out Todman.

Suprised you weren't impressed.

5' 9, 220, with 4.4 speed, and clearly legit 4.4. speed if you watched the vid. Good in traffic, good in space. Home run ability, low center of gravity....

He's simply a better talent than Todman. The only question with Cobb is the foot.  (injury)
