Please Mr Caldwell take Manziel with 3rd pick

#81

I like this guy. He has the best mobility in the pocket I've seen since Tyrod Taylor. I remember thinking he was a Tim Tebow clone last year until I saw him play Alabama. They played cover 2 in the first half and dared him to throw and he threaded the ball right in between the corner and safety. He has all the arm strength he needs, he understands defenses, and his ability to extend the play is something no other prospect this year has. My only concern about him is his size, and his injury history, this year in particular.
10 years ago we had Bob Hope, Johnny Cash, and Steve Jobs..... Please don't die, Kevin Bacon.

Quote:Not sure, but Gus seems to have carte blanche with so many of the other moves (Seattle influenced)

Personally, I'd rather have Caldwell make the QB decision independent of Gus' as Caldwell is the personnel guy not Gus. Gus' job is to coach.

Who said Gus Bradley makes the picks? David Caldwell factors in his ideas, but makes the final decision for every pick.

Wait, that GIF was supposed to be a huge plus play in the evaluation box for Johnny? He literally leaps over a lineman and jumps back parallel to him again while dodging two more defenders. That's exciting and great and all...in college.

Want to know what is going to happen when he tries to literally jump over JJ Watt or Nick Fairley or Marcel Dareus.

If Tyrod Taylor is who Manziel projects to be as a pro, then, pass.

I don't expect him to do that against those guys.....will he make them miss.....extend the play......be a major threat to run if you don't account for him? The answer is yes.

^^Bucky Brooks' report on Manziel after last night's game.

Notable quote for me:

Quote:While it will take an innovative offensive coordinator to craft a scheme to maximize his talents, I can see Manziel fitting into a West Coast offense that features a ton of movement/waggle passes like the Houston Texans utilized under Gary Kubiak. Additionally, I can see Manziel thriving in an uptempo scheme that mixes spread formations with a rapid pace. Given the freedom to operate in a wide-open offense, Manziel could help an offense produce fireworks with a capable supporting cast.

I feel like Fisch has been nothing if not innovative this year.  Johnny Football could fit here.

Perhaps that's what this city needs at this point though. We've been patient through YEARS of multiple rebuilding processes by multiple coaches and GMs. It's nice to see Jaguar fans not just hopeful, but excited for the future.

This must be how Indy felt in 2012 with Luck on the draft-board, and how Carolina felt in 2011 with a chance at getting Netwon. Nobody knows what's going to happen, but it's just nice to see some of that same exuberance in Jacksonville.

I want 3 players. Clowney, Bridgewater, Manziel. Jaguars have the number 3 pick. Just give me one of those 3 at 3, and I'm happy.

I don't understand how everyone is blowing their wad over manziel and bridgeys expected domination. The only ones with much to prove in their bowl games are Boyd Carr and bortles.

Unbelievable to see so many people changing their minds after ONE game.

First player in college football history to ever have 3 games over 300-yards passing and 100-yards rushing.

Eclipsed 7,000 yards of total offense in his 19th career game, faster than any other college football quarterback in history

Had the most yards of total offense by a single player in an SEC game ever(576, breaking Archie Manning's 1969 record of 540 yards)

Had the most yards of total offense by a single player in an SEC season (5,116, breaking Cam Newton's 2010 record in two fewer games)

First quarterback in SEC history to pass for 3,000 yards and rush for 1,000 yards in a season.

Holds the top 3 games of total offense by a single player in the SEC
1)576 yards-Johnny Manziel
2)562 yards-Johnny Manziel against #1 Alabama
3)557 yards-Johnny Manziel
Keep in mind, all these records were made in the exact same conference that Cam Newton and Peyton Manning played.

The opinions of this board may have changed over 1-game, but make no doubt about it, Johnny-football has had more big games than every other QB in this years draft combined. Arguably more big games than any college QB in history within 2-seasons.

I brought something like this up in a post last night.

The one attribute you gotta love about Johnny Manziel is he seems to play his best in big games/ big spots. To me, that might be one of the most important aspects of a QB that you hope to get.

Fully agreed. Besides Lousiana-Tech, I'm pretty sure the best game Johnny ever played statistically was this year against #1 Alabama. Most QBs don't have their best games against the best team in the world. But you're right, it does seem the bigger the game/stakes, the bigger the Johnny.

Talk about coming up big in high pressured situations. Down 28-10 with 7 minutes left in the 2nd quarter. Duke have marched down the field on every possession. 4th and goal at the nine.....A&M has to go for it. Johnny throws the perfect back shoulder pass to Labhart who is tightly covered for a TD. After that.....I started to believe. It's moments like this that make a great player great.

If the Texans don't take Bridgewater #1 overall, I think some team will try to trade up to #2 to pick him ahead of us.

Yeah he missed his WR wide open on a double move. Could have scored a TD in the first 2 seconds of that play. His first read was covered and he tried to take off. Thats not good.

Rams trade with the Browns. The Browns want to jump us for a QB and the Rams can get Matthews at 4...that is til the Falcons trade with us to nab Matthews or Clowney/Barr.

Like many that have already posted in this thread I changed my mind last night about Manziel.  I heard a lot of people on Facebook and Twitter bashing him as immature on the sidelines last night.  I saw a guy that had some serious passion about the game and was trying to get people on board with him.  I would love to see him and Bradley on the sidelines together.  And to see some of his replays on those new boards will be amazing!!!!
