Flag Burning: To ban or not to ban?

#81

Quote:I'm pretty sure homosexuals take it a little more personally then most when a rainbow flag is "disrespected".

Creation of sacred cows--symbols that are above criticism--is a great way to end up in a totalitarian society. My thoughts on flag burning have been covered (tl;dr, it's distasteful and draws more attention to the action than the cause), but telling people what symbols they can and can't deface is a lot like what North Korea and Iran have been up to for the past few decades.

I agree with this. We can't pick and choose which forms of protest are allowable simply because one is deemed more offensive than the other. In most cases, people who burn the flag are doing it more for reaction than protesting a genuine transgression of justice. Resorting to such baseless stunts only serves to undermine their message. "Look at me. I'm burning an American flag because...just because. Oh, look at me."

Why is it that you think I am contradicting you? What you replied with has nothing to do with what I meant. At all. Read what I wrote again in the context of what I was replying to and think about it before you reply. If you still don't get it then I'll be glad to break it down to you,

Stupid people will be stupid, whether stupid is legal or not. However, if anyone were to try to burn the one on my mantle, they will get a serious case of lead poisoning.

Yeah, because people break in and steal flags off mantles to burn them in protest all the time. Good grief.

What kind of flag is usually on a mantle?

Usually one with extreme significant meaning. I know if anything were to maliciously happen to mine, the offender would WISH for lead poisoning. Personally, I wouldn't be so easy.. When you have radical libtard liberals out there, and they're out there by the millions, anything stupid like that can happen at any time because of course, the majority of them are just [BLEEP] and care nothing about other people's belongings.

Thank you for so eloquently proving my point that stupid people will be stupid.

You have been a superb example.

Have someone with half of a brain explain to you what "if" means sometime.
