If you're a Mall Santa and you lose your job, do you just go back to looking at porn on the internet?

Because of my sister, a teacher, and a good friend, also a teacher, I've met a few and they are surprisingly informed and opinionated. Not only that, more of them supported Trump than you'd expect, mainly because of Pence. I'm in the virtual buckle of the Bible Belt.
And that is the problem they have.

And here I thought everyone believed "Bad Santa"s were cool?  Hasn't Hollywood glorified Bad Santas?

Personally I've never seen the movies.  Likely never will.  There are too many good Christmas movies to watch instead (Christmas Vacation, Die Hard, Lethal Weapon...)

Being smart and being opinionated about politics are two different things.

I'm curious also if these teenagers have the same political beliefs as you and if that influenced your opinion of them?

Fair question. On the other hand, I'm curious as to if them not sharing people's views and political views lead people to think they are indoctrinated or uneducated as has been expressed on this board ad nauseam.

I'm simply posting my point of view from being around a lot of 18 and 19 year olds that are new to the Navy.  Also being around a lot of young children in my neighborhood (middle and high school aged).  Most of them don't know "why" they prefer one candidate over the other, other than "popularity".  The "friends" on Facebook pretty much tell them which is the better candidate rather than learning the truth themselves.  They don't "like" one candidate over the other because of policy decisions, they "like" one over the other either based on popularity or because of what they see on comedy shows and/or social media.

I find it pretty hard to believe that young children, even high school aged children really have a grasp on the real issues that we as a country face.

That's a fair question as well.  Me personally, I don't care if someone has a different political point of view from me as long as it's accurate.  When you have young adults saying that Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin are "BFF", that's pretty much false.  When you have young adults fresh out of high school that say they were never taught about The Cold War I have a problem with that.  When you have young adults and some children saying that Socialism and/or Communism are a good thing for our nation, I have a problem with that.

Regarding the last statement, I've asked them about the history of North Korea, Cuba and Venezuela since that's fairly recent history.  They have absolutely no idea about the past and/or present state of those countries.  Yet, they were taught that Socialism/Communism are the way that this country should go.

Most of the young adults that I'm around on a daily basis were infants or very young when 9/11 happened.  A shocking number of them were taught in public government school that it was our fault that it happened.  Quite a few blame President Bush for the attacks because that is what they were taught.

Now the young adults that I'm around on a daily basis come from all walks of life and from all over the country.  I'm not saying that they all think that way, but there is a significant number of them that do.  When I hear some of the stuff that they say it leads me to the opinion that they've been indoctrinated rather than educated.

Don't get me started over the whole "LGBTQ" and which restroom is appropriate to use issue.  Quite frankly, LGBTQ==GAY.  They don't all deserve their own "title" and they don't all deserve a "participation trophy".  I had my grandson who is in elementary school try to tell me that there are "no winners and losers".  I promptly played a childhood game with him that I easily won and told him that he lost and was the loser of the game.  He didn't like that much, so we played another game, this time I let him win and told him that I was the loser and he was the winner.  I also pointed out that if he wanted to be a winner he would have to work at it.  I hope and pray that he gets the message and learned the lesson.

Our anecdotes are going to natural align with things as we want them to be. I don't believe schools are teaching these things, maybe the parents but schools are not teaching Bush is responsible for 911. Not when Texas is in charge of most books.

I have never had an experience similar to this.

What does your LGBT rant have to do with anything other than to show that you don't understand it?

You know?  I would have thought the same thing as you, but I've asked point blank where they learned certain things and the answer was "in school".  To be fair, it's not ALL of them, but the majority that hold a far left opinion.

My rant regarding gays was just kind of "thrown in there" because I see those issues at work as well.  The same with the "participation trophy" mentality that children are being taught in today's world.

The bottom line is, we've gone from a "can do" type of society to a "give me" society.

I'm not calling you a liar but I don't believe them either. I think it's easy to just say "I learned it in school" rather than well I was influenced by my parents and my social groups and the message boards I frequent. "I learned it in school" has a feel of authority to it. It's not like kids are the most truthful of people. That's all I am saying.

Did you not read the last sentence of my post?

Also, it's pretty easy to turn that around, do conservatives think teens are ill informed because they disagree with their political beliefs?

You didn't specify anything. I'm sure you don't think all of them were informed. If you don't think all of them on informed, then undoubtedly some would be uninformed (obviously). If that's the case, then I'm curious how many of them shared your beliefs and if that helped influence why you thought they were intelligent.

What you said doesn't clearly state any of that.

Good grief, Inspector.

Had I know you needed a head count, I would have taken an informal poll, or maybe gather empirical data for you. My point is when I talk to them, they tell me who they support, and why. It's usually not a retweet response, but reasoned. Some I agreed with, some I didn't. One student in particular stood out, very informed on the issues, and made a good case for Trump. Of the kids I've met and talked to, the percentage who could discuss the issues seemed to be similar to the adults I know.

I mentioned the Bible Belt because the 18 year old daughter of my good friend refused to vote for Hillary for two reasons. One is an Old Testament prohibition on women leaders, a stance on which I'll not discuss further, the other because of Clinton's stance on 2nd Amendment rights. And this was not just a knee jerk "she's gonna take our guns", she quoted verbatim what was on the Clinton campaign web site, and why she disagreed.

What's your experience, and not knowing you any better than you know me, what assurance can you give me that your view of their political acumen isn't influenced by your beliefs?

Let face it, rj, you have about as much experience with teenagers as most people.

Smart [BLEEP] comment aside, I don't care for a head count; I'm trying to point out that many of them probably shared your opinion and that it probably influenced why you thought they were intelligent. I'm sure my views influenced how I see them too, but let's not kid ourselves and pretend that teenagers are not generally naive and often form opinions based on emotion.
