Couple of reasons. For starters, the guy is a former cop and has connections with the prosecutors. 2 DA's had to recuse themselves from the trial. I imagine that slowed the process some, though I'm not sure exactly how long that takes per instance. I think the only reason these guys weren't detained originally is due to the father's ties to the force, which is more of product of bureaucracy than systemic racism. The current DA seems to be taking the investigation seriously. There's virtually no way these dudes aren't indicted.

I want to know what happened at an institutional level that allowed inaction... and then a reversal only when the media gets hold of the video...

Was the first response correct? Was the second response guided by the public uproar?

If it's an institutional failure at either end it's a huge, huge problem.. and lots of people should be losing their jobs or even get indicted for mishandling this case.

On a personal level with absolutely no legal knowledge I think the shooting was clearly not justified.. but I don't know the "legal" definition of it so I'll let the authorities hash that part out.

Yeah, pretty hard not to see this as a couple vigilantes. I pretty much share JJ's sentiments on this exactly. Wish people would lay off the racial narrative. Just like it's irrelevant that Ahmaud committed a crime, it's also irrelevant that this was motivated by race. If it could be proven that it was racially motivated, I am all about reversing that opinion.

DA offices don’t like to lose and racially charged cases never have a clear “winner.” In this situation, the court of public outcry and opinion forced someones hand. When did a Grand Jury convene for this homicide charge? They didn’t which is suspect.

DA offices don’t like to lose and racially charged cases never have a clear “winner.” In this situation, the court of public outcry and opinion forced someones hand. When did a Grand Jury convene for this homicide charge? They didn’t which is suspect.

Thank you for the video, it is excellent.  But I don't expect the MSM to drop the "he was jogging" mantra anytime soon. 
I also wonder about the 7-second video inside the garage.  There's obviously more footage since it does not show Arbery leave the garage.  Why would this video be edited and what was excluded?

Even if that dude burned that friggin house down it should have in no way ended in his death. Punishment must occur. The level of punishment will be determined by the courts. It won't be harsh enough for some and way to harsh for others. There is simply no way from what I can see that dude should have died that day.

Based on Georgia law and what we know so far, this will fall under involuntary manslaughter with a maximum 10-year sentence. There is not enough to make this voluntary (so far) and the DA would risk letting some folks walk free overplaying their hand based on the court of public opinion and outcry.

How is blowing a hole in someone's chest "involuntary"?

Jethro and Craklins decided they were the law so they armed up and went rolling out after a guy who was running away instead of calling the cops as they should've. To protect all of our rights to self-defense and to bear arms cases like these MUST see the perpetrators investigated, charged, and put on trial to publicly defend their actions. Then they need to go to jail for their recklessness that resulted in that man's death.
