Jaylon Smith injured

What is the recovery time for an ACL/MCL? I would seriously have to consider him if he was there in the 2nd.

Think you can pretty much rule him out for the entire season. IIRC Willis McGahee had the same injury at about the same time and he missed his entire rookie season.

Assuming he could regain his explosiveness, I would still have to seriously consider him. You basically would be redshirting your MLB of the future and getting a potential top 5 pick to boot.

Since he's a LB, I could see him falling out of the first round. Not sure id pick him at the top of the 2nd though, as we need players who can impact the defense this year first and foremost. If by some miracle he falls to the 3rd or even to the bottom of the 2nd I would be in favor of trying to grab him.

dont think Dave or Gus would want to do that. They need impact players this year. Both of their jobs could ve on the line

If Jaylon didn't tear any cartilage given time he will regain his explosiveness. Given that the Jags have only two solid linebackers I would seriously consider him. If he did tear some cartilage and has to have micro fracture surgery I would have to rule him out

The Jags still have Poz and could afford to let Smith sit out 2016 imo

It's possible he stays in school now too.

He will declare to get the insurance policy or he will get drafted in the 1st

5 million if he gets the insurance, ~8 million if he gets drafted late in the 1st, ~20 million if he goes back to school and rehabs/returns to top 10 next year.

Wouldn't be the first time someone has gambled on themselves and paid off big. We'll find out in less than 2 weeks.

The one thing is that this may essentially be a whole season of rehab, so he may not even see the field at Notre Dame again. I don't think his stock will rise to where it was prior to the injury if he returns to school. It's unfortunate for him since this effectively cost him $10 million in guaranteed money and it will be interesting to see what his decision is.

The fear is nerve damage, as well. Very serious surgery.

He'll be off alot of team's draft boards if this is true.

That's really too bad for him, I was looking forward to possibly adding him to our defense and he has a long road of recovery ahead.  I would still draft him (depending on medical at the combine) but nowhere near where he originally would have went.

My lasting impression for Smith was the Notre Dame-Clemson game; and Smith really was nowhere to be found. I think he's an exceptional player at the College level, but not so sure he's going to be able to play at that level in the NFL.

I'm trying to make myself more informed and less opinionated.

with the fear of nerve damage looming, 1) 0% chance he doesn't declare to cash in on the insurance. 2) the jaguars can't afford to gamble anything more than a mid/late third rounder on him, in my opinion.

Coughlin when asked if winning will be a focus: "What the hell else is there? This is nice and dandy, but winning is what all this is about."

I didn't actually rate him as a top 15 pick before injury he'll go 2nd or later for sure now.

Is there any chance of a medical red shirt year? Or is there such a thing, not really sure how the system works.

I'm pretty sure there are stiff restrictions on medical red shirt seasons.  One of them being the number of games played.  His injury happened too late into the season.

Feel sorry for him. Great player. We were in prime position to grab him in the draft also. Get well soon big man!
