Does everyone want to go to the playoffs and why

#81

We've drafted so many times already, man... I think its time we get to the playoffs with the picks we already have. We have a stacked offense that could do amazing things if they're on fire, and getting the experience is way more valuable than any college prospect.

I am shocked that this thread is still at the top.  Why would you lose on purpose with six games left & a chance of going to the playoffs....

I seriously thought it was a troll thread...

Too bad if we do win the division and host a playoff game, it would probably be against the Steelers. Terrible matchup for us. Hopefully the Jers, Bills, or Chiefs take that spot somehow. We can beat those 3.

The Steelers are only 2 games back in the division. I could see them taking the division and the Bengals being the 5th seed. Maybe we'll get a crack at playoff Andy Dalton.

Stupid thread is stupid. Who doesn't want to be in the playoffs? You gotta be in it to win it. Given the "any given Sunday" factor who knows what could happen once you make it in....especially if we're facing off against an AFC North opponent...

Did anyone expect the 2006 Steelers to win a SB with a rookie at QB? I'm sure no one called the Seahawks who stumbled into the playoffs to face off against a SB favorite team like the Saints to pull off the amazing upset, yet it happened.

Not only that but making the playoffs gives your current players invaluable experience to make a hopefully deeper run next year, it makes Jacksonville a more attractive landing spot for potential free agents, and it gives you definitive proof that the arrow is officially pointing up. Isn't that what we all want?

True. I'd rather that honestly, but we have our own work to take care of! I'm hyped to even be talking playoffs right now.

The Jags are right in the thick of playoff talk. Who would have thought that after 11 weeks we would be.

Steelers 6-4

Chiefs 5-5

Colts 5-5

Bills 5-5

Texans 5-5

Raiders 4-6

Jaguars 4-6

Dolphins 4-6

That's 8 teams fighting for 3 spots. We're 1 game out of division race.... and no wild card too.

Fixed it for you.

I'm kind of confused by this. I assume by the 3 spots you mean the AFC South winner and the two wild cards, in which case it's 3 (or 4 depending on how you view the titans) fighting for one spot (the AFC South title) and then 7 teams fighting for the two wild cards. But I'm not sure any team in the AFC has yet been mathematically eliminated from the playoffs, though it's highly unlikely the Browns, Ravens, or Chargers have enough things go their way to take a wildcard.

PS - how awesome is it to still be talking about the playoffs on Thanksgiving week, let alone a home playoff game?!?!?!?!?!

I could see the Steelers still taking that division. Cincy still has a couple real tough games left to play,, including one against Pitt. So yeah, it's still a possibility.

However, I'd rather play the Steelers. Dalton looks a little better,, and they have a real shot of winning a playoff game this year. Do the Jags really want to be the ONLY team to lose to Dalton in the playoffs? Idk. I think Jags can beat the Steelers. After all,, Pitt has lost their last couple playoff appearances too.

I just can't fathom why someone who considers himself a fan of any team would not want them to make the playoffs.

I use to be on that tank [BLEEP] but feel like now we have a genuine chance to win. Jags fans want to win!!!

Yea, but I think I'd stoop to new low levels in order to try and save face first. The "I was drunk and couldn't control what my fingers were saying" excuse would seem appropriate in this situation.

I don't think the Patriots have a top 25 draft pick on the team. If they do, they probably didn't draft them.

Back when we were playoff contenders, there used to be discussions like this all the time.

I understand if folks were not to want to make the playoffs, the thinking being... we had no chance and would be embarrassed.

Well, since then, we've embarrassed ourselves enough in the regular season.  Not sure many feel the same way anymore, if the responses to the thread are indicative.

I, myself, would prefer to win the division to earn a spot rather than backing into a wild card.  But playoffs are playoffs, and every game is additional revenue, exposure, and experience.  I'll take it either way.
