He had a solid year because they completely took him out of coverage and made him an extra linebacker i.e. they hid him. Because of this it limited Gipson who always had to play 15 yards back from the LOS and we couldn't do any two safety looks because Cyprien would get abused in coverage. Hiding Cyp made him look like a really good run defender, but it hurt the overall aggressiveness and versatility of the secondary. With Church we can finally have a SS that can play deep and not have to worry about being a complete albatross.

. Exactly, Gibson went from being a ball hawk free safety to being a damage control free safety because of cyp.

I wonder how high they go for a DB in the draft, and if they are thinking safety or CB? Considering Peyton Thompson and Josh Johnson's flexibility to backup the safety/nickel spots, and even outside if needed. Still, a top end rook may be needed for grooming.

Would you guys consider going after Malik Hooker? What if Garrett, Allen, and Thomas are all gone when we pick at 4? Fournette seems like a good option but FS can be upgraded. Hooker is a major ball hawk with great speed and huge hands. I wouldn't mind the selection with a trade down.

It would be another 'Myles Jack rookie season' for Hooker. We'd have Gipson play the majority of snaps, and unless it's an obvious passing down, I doubt we'd sub out Church.

Outside, could sub in for Ramsey or Bouye. Basically just depth, but a guy that was better than Hargreaves at Florida. If his skill transfers over, we have three potential #1's on the roster.

 

He's projected to go in the 3rd round, and I feel like that's a steal. His off the field concerns are keeping him down.

I'd take​ him in the 3rd. If he develops to a top talent you can trade him for a good value, or have a backup​ plan in case Ramsey wants to leave for another team or if anyone gets injured.


DB is like pass rush. Can never have too many good corners.
