Head coach, doesn't mean he has to run drills and plays, it just means that he designs them and that the team of players and coaches follow his philosophy.

I mean...the hours and stresses that go into a head coaching job is pretty insane. So I disagree that the physical requirements aren't much.

 

I do think Coughlin has at least 3-4 years left in him though. It sucks he likely isn't a long-term fix but we've been the laughing stock of the NFL for nearly a decade. If he can get us on the right track here at least than I'm fine. I'm just sick of being a perennial 5-11 or worse every season.

Like I said, I agree. I'm not sure they don't think he can do much of a job now. I feel like most just don't like the thought of getting someone so old to take over when it's obvious he likely isn't a long-term fixture. At least that's what I'd assume. He needed a change of scenery from NYG.

Coughlin is built unlike a lot of people too. You hear that when you listen/talk to anyone. He's a coach through and through.

Indeed Huyghue made a mess of their cap situation with his belief in paying players top dollar, however, that was never the issue with TC as GM. The issue with TC at GM was that after his first couple drafts, he absolutely stunk at drafting players. He had a few draft classes that were nearly complete busts, and it's those bad drafts that depleted their roster of talent.

lol Gene's best pick is a rotational player at best, probably not a starter anywhere in the league, and he was a 1st round 10th overall selection. Mother of God... Checked Gene's wiki and he is still unemployed, man he was AWFUL. I think he may be working at a grocery store somewhere as a bagger under a different alias.

If he's smarter with his own money than he was with the salary cap he'll never have to work again, though I'm sure he could catch on as a regional scout if he actually wanted to do that.

Personally I prefer a defensive minded coach.  They tend to lead perennial contenders.  Defenses still do win championships - those teams power into the playoffs where others fade down the stretch, and they tend to be more conservative on offense in the sense they limit mistakes and turnovers.

 

Offensive minded teams typically rely on firepower to keep up and outscore the opponent.  While some teams may find their way to the playoffs on the backs of their offense, they typically exit quickly because their defense isn't up to par.

Marvin Lewis turned around a joke of a Bengals organization that is constantly competing most of the time. Obviously you want to win the superbowl or see more postseason success but he definitely was a great hire for that team.

 

Quinn is in just his 2nd year, so yeah he hasn't won much. Looking like they have a good shot of entering the postseason though.

 

It honestly doesn't matter THAT much which side of the ball we go for. Just give me a good coach that can get us out of this decade-long rut.
