Carrier Stays in the US

Quote:Theft is taking something from someone without his or her knowledge. You are choosing to give money to the government, which is the opposite of theft. Everyone knows this.

I don't agree with the theft thing, but it isn't a choice to pay tax. you have to pay it -unless you are a billionaire or a multi national of course.

Quote:I'm happy the jobs are staying here but it's the how and why that concerns me. As a libertarian/conservative it's fundamental that government should not interfere with the free market and create winners and losers. It's one thing to say across the board were reducing taxes by x amount for companies or people that meet x qualifications.

It's a completely different thing to say we are creating an exemption for this specific company in this situation, that's not free market economics.

Someone said states already do this which is fine, that's a state issue local commerce, were talking about the federal arm creating an advantage for one company over its competition as a way to keep them domestic. That's a terrible precedent to set and why conservatives don't see that baffles me?
I have the same problem with arrangements like this. So Carrier threatens to move 1000 jobs out of the country and gets a nice tax benefit to keep those jobs in the US. Next month a small time competitor of Carrier seeks the same tax benefits but since they only have 50 jobs they get told to sod off. Where's the competition in that?

I'm fine with giving tax benefits to keep industry jobs in whatever location you want, I'm not fine with with using tax benefits to essentially bribe companies to keep jobs where you want them.

Where's the reduction in spending? Seems revenue has just been reduced?

It doesn't mean he wont, and does he have to do both at the same time?

Quote:When someone depicts taxes as legalized theft, it's not a stretch to assume they don't want to pay taxes.

Oh...hyperbole...got it.

You assume a lot.

People have been fairly consistent about this issue. Tax items / goods or reduce income taxes that are already too high. Just because you interpret something else then that's on you.

It doesn't justify a weak argument to invalidate their efforts to keep jobs in the US.

Quote:Didn't save a single job they just shifted WHO lost their jobs. 1400 jobs lost is 1400 jobs lost.

Show me.

The only thing I've read says that they couldn't save all of the jobs, only some.

When you pay taxes you are fully aware you are doing that. Therefore it is not theft. And except for sales taxes, you can choose not to pay them. You would just get punished big time for it.

You seem confused. I didn't say it was theft, that was one of the tin foil hat brigade.

It's not really a free choice if you get locked up.

You're talking with a person who doesn't have a job. She has no concept of taxation except what her mom tells her.

If you pay taxes, you are fully aware you are giving someone else your money. You said taxes are theft, no question about it.

Well that would go against most of my beliefs. So I don't think you would find I did. But I'm sure you know me better than I do

Theft isn't only theft if you know about it. But you can't understand that.

You aren't giving, it's taken. But you are a taker so you don't get it.

They take my money. I do not want them to.

Even Sarah Palin is calling it "crony capitalism". Trump has investments in the parent company. Let's see how many job he tries to save using tax breaks for companies he has no vested interest in.

Do you think he would lose money on his investment if they had moved everything to Mexico?
