How is it relevant to the world we live in today?(07-07-2020, 09:12 PM)Sneakers Wrote: Why are you blaming all white people for everything bad that has happened to every black person over the last 150+ years? I'm from the north, my ancestors were wearing blue when they marched into battle (you know, the Union...the good guys who were fighting to free the black people).
When you get into the endzone, act like you've been there before.

Some, not all, White people told black people they weren't as good, they can't use our water fountains or our hotels or our public bathrooms. We Some, not all, kept them out of certain jobs, we Some, not all, enslaved them, we Some, not all, lynched them, we Some, not all, discriminated against them, kept them out of our sports, kept them out of our schools. We Some, not all, told them they can only marry other black people. In short, Some, not all, white people are the ones that made black people separate. We Some, not all, segregated them from us. We Some, not all, are the ones at fault. Most Northerners did not believe in racial equality or integration immediately before nor during the civil war. They believed in life, liberty, and property for all. But that was it. As soon as the great migration of blacks from south to north began, Northern cities drew up restrictive covenants to make sure black people could never live in the most desirable neighborhoods, and northern neighborhoods, schools, churches, and factory floors were generally just as segregated as those in the South the entire time. The main difference was, northerners didn't see any need to separate black people at lunch counters or grocery stores or hotels. The good news is you don't get any points for what your ancestors did, whether good or bad. Your ancestors' actions don't reflect on your character. we only talk about them because they might help explain why the world is the way it is. If we see there is a problem where black people have much less wealth or power per capita than white people, we have to understand why that problem exists before we ever could attempt to solve it. If history says it's because black people were not given education, we can give them more education going forward. If history says it's because black people were kept separate and not given opportunities for good jobs, we can fix that going forward, too. But if history says that black people always had equal education and equal opportunities, it would be pretty easy to infer that they must have some sort of genetic inferiority, and that nothing should be done because nothing can fix that. So, unfortunately, we do have to assign blame to dead people in order to understand what the remedy should be going forward. We must either assign blame on the first couple of generations of freed slaves for being genetically less able to do the type of work that was to be done in those times, or we must place the blame on the white power structure that existed in those years for holding the black men down. Please don't take it personally on behalf of your ancestors.
My fellow southpaw Mark Brunell will probably always be my favorite Jaguar.
